It was such a lovely day yesterday the rain this morning seems even bleaker. Am finding it hard to get going - and spent waaaay too long reading diaries which I'm finding quite addictive ... Flat is complete tip, here goes power hour of clearing (unpunctuated by checking board or fleabay bids!)

You just described my day, today. Exactly.

  • Thanks both for popping by …

XSpender - glad to know there are others out there … and I will look into YNAB at some point for sure.

AFK - I love your username :) And the big question is did you manage the unpunctuated hour? (eagle eyes may have spotted that I did not ….)

Don't worry AFK, I didn't suggest an hour would sort it, just needed to start somewhere :)

Shamefaced Hollyboll hangs head in shame and comes on for Confessional. :o:o

Got home today to find lovely organic vegbox on my step. I used to get these and when I was not at home some months ago had suspended them for longest possible period, but missed the re-start date this week … overlooking this is JUST the kind of thing which has frittered over the years. Not that there's anything wrong with ordering it mindfully and consciously if one decides to do so, but there's no way I'd have done that at this point with no real income. :wall::wall:

So cross with myself, but at least I have now gone online immediately and cancelled all future orders (instead of suspending) to avoid another ostrich-smiley-emoticon.gif

This does mean I have a box of lovely if odd looking veg, I may be coming to MWC and Tilly et al for recipe tips - definitely not letting it go to waste!

Booked on a short course starting tonight for which I got a huge discount because on JSA. Last thing I feel like but determined not to waste it so better get going again ….

  • Hello Holly,

Just wanted to wish you luck on your journey, rather belatedly. And very good luck with the job searching.

Re spending diaries, I have used them on and off over the years and stuck to them for varying amounts of time. The 2015 diary has only two months to go and it is a real eye opener about how much we spend and where it goes. I do recommend a small notebook to carry with you and jot down spending for later analysis!

    All the best,

Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
  • Ooh spending diaries! Mine has been a wake up call to me, really helpful. Bit excited as I've just created a new budget spreadsheet to track/analyse monthly spends (need to get out more, defo)! I'll probably keep track of daily spends in a little notebook still and then update the totals at the end of each month.

I also check against my bank statements in case Ive missed something :)

Thanks very much both for dropping by ….

Squirrel, I confess yours was one of the diaries I started reading and got a fair chunk through earlier in the year but then never reached the end - fantastic to see you made it to the MF :) :T:T … I'll add the Squirrel Story to my list to which to go back. And I've now started writing in the lovely little notebook which I bought earlier in the year and had ignored :o … need to work out how to do the analysis, but baby steps - I first need to get better at writing down everything. (Thanks also for the job wishes, not an easy time).

Selloptape - fab user name btw :) - a cunning spreadsheet is indeed I think my next step to help me track / analyse, so I'm very impressed, and welcome any ideas about how to structure / do etc ... And yes I need to get out more too :rotfl:

    Morning all

Just tracked my first test received items for the RM panel survey thingy - thanks :money: for that idea. It was like Christmas getting some new stamps in the mail too, just need to work out how best to utilise them as don't really write too much these days … maybe in some combination with the fleabaying ….

I've also received a contactless T3B card, so at least for another couple of months need to make sure I utilise that for fiver cashback … my old one wasn't contactless. This was a nice bonus … I'm grateful that I opened lots of different accounts earlier in the year, 'cos no chance of getting any at the mo without income, so it's good to see a way of doing something small …

Otherwise, still a bit bleurgh, that Friday feeling is less exciting when not working!
Hope everyone is having a good day

It took me about 3 attempts to get on the RM survey. Half way through my test items, they said they needed to 'rest' me for while, then I never heard from them again! At the time, I visited the Post Office often, but now I either post my eBay items in a post box or send the bigger ones by My Hermes, so even if they wanted me to start up again I wouldn't want to

Hopefully you'll have more luck than me
