  • Welcome and Good Luck!
You and Gally are as one with the accidental housebuying.
  • Thanks for visiting SHS, I've enjoyed reading bits of your diary :)

Sadly, although Gally claims to be accidental, I'm pretty confident there is a lot more logic to her purchases (and mortgages and general BTL finances) than mine … ah well, something to which I can aspire :)

Another vote for gumtree here. Its a pain having people up to the house but once thkngs are gone they are gone as people have seen them before they purchase and no requests for refunds or things missing in the post.

If you're in a city or reasonably big town have a look for local selling pages on gumtree as well. No fees and no postage plus people will generally collect so no hassle - DD swears by it. Also great to get rid if free stuff as you can leave it outside (if suitable area) and you don't even need to be in. Same with Facebook selling pages.
    .

Now you tell me … was feeling knackered today and then realised I did spend about 10 hours at computer yesterday on the flea …. :rotfl:
But seriously, thank you … I love the way fellow MFWers challenge our ruts and I realised reading these that I have got into a fleabay rut ...
    1. I live in Big Smoke, so gumtree is perfect.
    2. Have used gumtree for odd jobs etc but no idea why not, never thought of selling things on it.
    3. Have received a very rude email from one 'viewer' on the flea today, and one winner been a pain in the rear, plus spent an hour on packing for posting tomorrow, so can see advantages to avoiding all this.
    4. IF I carry on as plan, I may even be able to open my front door to let people in for purchases :T:T

A lot of this batch I've listed is [STRIKE]utter carp[/STRIKE] specialist stuff so I think the bay's audience is helpful. But when I get to clothes (I've broken the KM rules for some good reasons and not started there) in particular, I think I'll go gumtree. Will try to hunt down clippy for some tips :)

I do have a minimum and if I don't think an item will fetch it (based on searches of what's sold) or it doesn't go after a couple of (free) realists, I take to CS, which helps abate guilty feeling for not giving it all to them. And for stuff which they don't want or I can't physically remove, freeeecycle is fab.

  • In other news, this evening I have:
    - managed a second NSD :):)
    - played with excel to work out what I've made on fleabay since I started selling earlier this year. Bit defeated now (I'm sure nothing to do with [STRIKE]wasting[/STRIKE] investing quite some time trying to do conditional colouring ), so will report back anon, but …
WHO KNEW. IT'S TRUE WHAT Y'ALL SAY. THE LITTLE BITS DO REALLY ADD UP :T:T

Sitting in an internet cafe with a chuffing horrid chair, mouse and keyboard AND have had to spend £3.65 to eat something - all because my broadband not working at home and I had to get something out ...

    BUT sun-2-smiley-emoticon-animation.gif
This is because I have changed to e3e following the tip in weekly mail. Quite pleased with this as I changed to TalkT0lk earlier in the year following a tip then when I got a free tablet which I fleabayed. So when I get to add it up - I feel another spreadsheet coming on - I should have done well with broadband this year.

Here's hoping it gets up and running before the promised 23.59 this evening, and that I have fewer teething probs with it than last time I changed.

    Happy Tuesdays all

  • :T Yay, am back online. Don't want to jinx it by speaking too soon but switch seems to have gone smoothly.

Now paid £63 for the next year of broadband, assuming that I a) get the Amaz0n voucher in due course and b) spend it wisely on things I NEED :)
    Not too bad.

So, wise MFW'ers - I've now put my annoying 3.65 spent earlier in my newly started spending diary. What do I do with it from there? Presumably put it in some spreadsheet:rotfl: but where to start? Tips welcome ....

  • It was such a lovely day yesterday the rain this morning seems even bleaker. Am finding it hard to get going - and spent waaaay too long reading diaries which I'm finding quite addictive ... Flat is complete tip, here goes power hour of clearing (unpunctuated by checking board or fleabay bids!)

Thanks Lucky, I know what you mean - not sure where it's all gone for ages, but hope diary a good first step.

Today has been a bit blergh - feeling meh not sure why. So much time and so much to do but struggling to make it happen. Really hate this time of year when it's dark by 5pm too, need to start making more of an early start to get more of the light ….

    Ah well, tomorrow is another.

Bought some milk only and paid some bills I had to pay - do regular bills go in spending diaries too, oh gurus?

Good luck on your mortgage free journey. I'm an IO/no repayment vehicle MFW too :)

I use YNAB for budgeting and as a spending diary as I can use it on my phone and laptop. It isn't free though.
