A long shot, but have you checked to see if you can get fibre in your area?
Satellite broadband can be pretty pricy. What do you use the internet for?
Oh, and Sky don't provide satellite broadband so that's not an issue.0 -
No fibre available and not scheduled in the near future. Some media production on a daily basis and web browsing.0

A couple of my rural friends had a sat system before BT got their act together in their village.
Off the top of my head, one had TuWay (?) and the other something that was pedalled by the NFU
Maybe you could google those??0 -
Thanks for now0

I have satellite broadband for similar reasons. I went through a company called Avonline and used Avanti satellite not Tooway as Avanti has less users hence not so much congestion (theoretically). Satellite bb has good points and bad points but clearly better than very slow ADSL.
As part of the Government schemes to upgrade broadband, they are introducing subsidised satellite broadband installation. Google for more info as I cannot post links. But worth contacting your local council to find out more and if they are yet included...
More info on the subsidies on Avonline's website too0 -
many thanks0

Do you get a decent 3G/4G signal. If so there are options... Trailed this at friends house where he normally gets 1meg ADSL and was stunned at the performance. Problem can be the data cost if you are heavy users...
Or
Do you have a local provider like this which is commonly organised by the local council etc

i heard satellite broadband is good, as you can get rid of your land line and dont pay the fees.
Im sick off paying for landline.. I hardly use it..

Yes it is very expensive, slow at peak times and users report endless extra data usage charges...
With our Lothian BB provider above I've been trialling VOIP for some time with no issues so our LL with BT will be cancelled when our contract ends0 -

While eliminating the need to pay for a landline is true, a landline/cable based broadband is often cheaper than the equivalent satellite service so isn't necessarily the best option for a lot of people.
Also, you say you hardly ever use your landline? How do you think you receive your internet connection?0
