Does anyone use Satellite Broadband - any good?

Hi,
A very general question really, but does anyone in northern Scotland use satellite broadband; if so what sort of package, and how good do you find it. Does it suffer much from the "changeable" weather we get here for example? Does your speed compare with the speeds advertised?
I know it is not money saving, but sometimes needs must, and the modern on-line world is not designed for those of us who can only get 0.4 Mb download, 0.05 Mb upload
Thanks

Anyone got experience of Satellite broadband ?
I'm starting to get fed up with BT, our exchange is getting upgraded to superfast, but BT are refusing to replace the old copper wire that connects us to it, it runs through woodland and everytime we get some windy weather our broadband drops.
Currently im trying to get Openreach to come out and change it, but i'm not hopeful as BT Broadband refuse to acknowledge a problem. So I'm thinking what about dropping the landline completely and going for Satellite broadband and having Skype as a home phone, looks about the same price as the overall BT package.0 -
Hi guys,
I live in a rural spot and theres no plan for fibre to be enabled on our line. Our internet connection is - needless to say - pretty dire.
I read about FTTA (fibre through the air) and had a chap out to test my signal. He drew a blank as I didnt have line-of-sight to their mast.
Ive been reading on what my other options are, and it seems that satellite broadband is the way to go.
Does anyone have any experience of this? Would anyone recommend a company to go with? Id be really interested in hearing people suggestions/advice as its just taken 2 minutes for this page to load!

Hi
So moving to a new house soon and Fibre isn't available in the street although it is on at the Exchange. I think there's a problem with my cabinet.
The only speed I will be able to get is a paltry 2.5mb which is not good enough for what I need.
So i'm looking into Satellite Broadband. It is quite pricey, especially installation costs, but looks like a good alternative to get me around 20mb and is contract free which is great for when/if Fibre does arrive from BT.
Can anyone a) recommend a provider and b) offer any feedback on using it?
Thanks in advance0 -
Just download speed and not upload? Or do you need upload also?
How much data per month? Daytime or night time?
£300 - £600 setup costs and upto approx £80 a month for 100GB a month on a 20mb down and 5mb up (if your lucky) and its not raining or snowing or windy or anything but perfect weather.
Dont forget the lag also..Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi
I regularly visit relatives who live in a remote village, there's hardly any GPRS signal let alone 3G. Is there any way I can get broadband whilst I'm there.
Thank you

Via satellite if you are willing to pay the price .
Best would be to buy some PAYG network sims and see if any gets a signal .0 -
My BT broadband is desperately slow, just 1Mb, and I need an alternative as we live in a rural area several miles from an exchange with four office computers working daily. A satellite provider is presumably the only alternative but NOT a SKY package including TV etc. Can anyone recommend a reputable provider?0
