This cyber attack, without doubt, has made many people very worried about online security.
This situation is exacerbated by reports of TalkTalk customers having their bank account raided.
Just perhaps, the newspaper reporters and the media in general, should ask a few questions of the "victims" and "experts" in order to find out exactly how money was taken from their bank accounts.
I for one would really like to know.

The impression I got from the reports today and yesterday was that the fraudsters were using the information stolen about 18 months ago.

Yeah the fact their site is still down has made me decide to cancel my pending switch.

Anyone got any idea how to do it?

If you are talking about cancelling a switch to talk talk consider putting it in writing and sending it by registered post, I doubt if you will be able to get through to them anytime soon. There is a cooling off period after you sign up, it says TT are 10 days on this site.

Could you contact your existing provider and ask if they can "block" the switch? Or/and even 'phone TT to cancel, I presume their 'phones are still operational?

Yet all the reports are talking about this being the 'third attack in 12 months

So the fraudsters are using information stolen 6 months before the first attack!

I still do not understand how the information that has been stolen can be used to access a bank account and money withdrawn.
It certainly cannot be by direct debit.

    Well it can't be used.

Dido has just been on Sky News to say that encrypted card information was accessed, so the thieves only got the middle six digits of the cards.

So all these victims of fraud that have allowed themselves to be quoted in the media...... looks like it's nothing to do with this Talk Talk breach after all!

They can't withdraw money with just a bank account number and sort code.

Per the report on Sky News within the last 15 minutes they haven't got the full credit card details

So they can't 'con your bank our of your money'

There's enough info there to convince a gullible person during a phishing attempt, so people still need to be on their guard

  • do you actually believe talk talks PR "muppet" Dido has not got a clue what is happening , she has repeatedly stated "I cannot comment until I get more info" ,

PR , spinoff and lies , 3.5 days and the website is still not up and running , no retail customers can do (as suggested 3 days ago) go there and change their password

In will lay a £ to a pinch of S%%^ that "dido" does not use callcredit (noodle) , why should she its 3rd rate and even the company do not use them
