  • Of course the hgv driver might have just passed the test and was inexperienced... unfortunately the only way to get experience is to get out on the public roads with all the cars whizzing about!

I'm not saying anything about 99% of lorry drivers. But based on the honesty of the OP's post, the lorry driver in that scenario was an idiot.

Because nobody embellishes the truth when telling their side of a story do they?

Must admit, I'm finding it hard to work out exactly how this happened and that's with 15 years experience.

The only plausible scenario I can come across is there was a tight gap on the OP's side past the traffic lights and instead of waiting for the artic trailer to clear it, decided to try and squeeze through and got hooked up under the rear arch by the trailer bumper. There's no other way I can see.

The HGV driver may have moved over to avoid someone crossing the road or a parked car, or a pot hole, to be honest I have no idea why he moved over the other side of the road, you'd have to ask them.

I was inside the lane markings minding my own business and have a witness to that fact, not that it's going to help me much in this situation though.
  • maybe he was just making a cup of tea or something? it is tricky when your driving.

But if the unit moves to the right, the rear of the trailer moves left of the line of travel....

He'd have had to pull out and driven a fair way before the trailer would have travelled right sufficiently to get back in line and even then, the rear wouldn't have stepped out at any point.

The only time the rear would have stepped out sufficiently is if he'd been turning left and even then, a quite reasonably tight turn.

Unless I climb into the mind of the HGV driver I cannot guess what they were trying to do. I'm not Derren Brown.
