I was facing the truck stopped at traffic lights. Ie- we were heading in opposite directions. It was a straight road, I've no idea why he hit me.

Maybe he wasn't paying attention or didn't judge the road correctly, you'd have to ask them which is what I'd like to do.

TBH I think a lot of drivers lorries and cars they just drive straight at you on your side of the road if there is something in their way. I get it all the time, then if you dont move they swear at you. Good job Im a lawyer I say.

We got pushed off the road by a building company's tipper truck which was overtaking us at a point where a road narrows from sort of dual carriageway to single carriageway - because an oncoming truck made him move over.

He drove off.

We chased him for FIVE miles to get his details and reported him to the police who did precisely f*** all.

His employers accepted his denial that he was involved and that was the end of it. We got stuffed, or would have done had it not been my brand new company car which my wife was driving.

I wouldn't hold out any hope at all of resolving this favourably given that you don't have the truck's details. You should have turned round and chased it. But you still might not have got anywhere.

Looks like the only way to get satisfaction is to follow them home, hire a big truck and then do over their cars and laugh out the window at them. Might cost a lot of money but would be fun, lol. Or maybe just use a hammer and smash all their windows and lights. No doubt the law would be working against you then rather than for you as it would be intentional criminal damage and not a road accident where the police don't give 2 hoots.

And you always get w*****s trying it on in the outside lane when it goes from dual lane to single, first thing I look at when I see that sign now is my right hand mirror to see what's coming up. Other thing you get is jokers overtaking you on the motorway then cutting straight across in front of you to take the exit at the last second. Had someone try it the other day then braking hard to get behind me so they could take the exit (I didn't speed up or anything, but found their crap driving amusing nonetheless.)

i drive these big things they can be upto 44tons and 53 feet long , ive been hit and hit things too,you do not feel it at all only if you hit it with the front of it even then it has to be hard to feel it , most off the time it down to the car driver why they get hit or hit us (not saying that in your case)put most off the time.
woolworth will now which company delivers to the shop and that company will now how did it, if there any damage to the lorry dowt it not even a scrach i think mite have moved some rust .
i think the Traffic Commission with take a dim view off it and woolworths and the driver will have to explain to them what happened if you report it to them.
not having a go put if he was going straight and you was stopped how did he hit you??the only way he/she could hit your rear panel is if the lorry was turning and the back swinging out hits you (turn left the back goes right not by much) and urban trailers turn just like your car
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

Never driven an artic, but surely the whole point of the hgv test is to ensure the competance of the driver, ensuring they are aware of their vehicle size, and therefore the clearence they need when making a manover. OP stated they were wating at traffic lights

Yes. But the laws of physics dictate that once the cab turns, you can't see down the side of the wagon ( light not being able to go through solid objects or round bends) , the side being determined by the direction you turn. Once the vcab is around 30-40° to the trailer on a left turn for example, all you see pretty much is the side of the trailer (not down the side) in the left mirror and the pavement on the right hand side of the road in the other.

If someone decides to stick themselves in a position of danger, they'll get hit.

It's not as if it is something new and it's in the Highway Code.

I would have liked to have chased him, but driving up the road with my bumper dragging along behind me probably wasn't the safest option!

The whole thing was probably captured on CCTV, according to my bus driver witness but the bus company won't release the footage, only on Police say so. I have to go back to the station today with my Licence but don't hold out any hope of them following it up.

Many fleets of vehicles use electronic tracking of their vehicles, so they know where they are, if they are stuck in traffic etc. It may be worth digging to see if the woolworths hauliers use such a system because the fleet managers would know exactly where each vehicle has been and when it was there.

Might be another avenue for you to pursue.
