    Hi All,

Its been very quiet from me lately, this month ran away with me. I haven't had chance to catch up on the thread yet but i hope everyone is doing well and that you have managed to continue with saving.

My monthly update now payday has finally arrived:

    #5: £999.41/£3000 (33.31%)

I got back some well overdue expenses from work so I've been able to add more than usual. Ive also added extra to my car fund and holiday fund account :)

My iPhone 4s on eBay sold for £79, however the buyer failed to pay so it back up again and the auction finishes Tuesday. Hopefully it will raise a similar amount so i can add more to my fund next week

Morning all! I've been paid, so my £300 direct debit has gone out to my EF - and I'm half way to my target! :jI'm declaring £3000 as my current total, Helen. I was hoping to make an extra payment in February, but I'm waiting for my final solicitor's bill and, whilst I have a rough idea of what that will be, I'll wait for the final total before transferring anything to the EF. The "save the change" feature on my bank account, plus some Ebay sales, means that I also have £311.93 in my decorating fund - that's mounting up nicely. I've paid £800 back to my parents out of the £1000 I owe them, which I'm very pleased about.

Plus... drum roll please... I've made the first payment on my new mortgage in my own name! :jNever thought I'd be pleased about a whopping great debt, but it's my own debt and I can't wait to crack on with overpaying on that. Debating a MFW diary, but I'm not sure how interesting it would be yet. I'll be revising my budget this month, to see whether I can increase the payments into my EF and reach my target sooner. Then I can focus my efforts on the mortgage, once I have the EF cushion.

Thanks again, Helen, for this challenge - it really has made a huge difference to my financial life! xx :A

  • Good Morning all!
I've had a nightmare 6 weeks for the Emergency Fund.
Firstly, my fridge/freezer packed up. My kitchen is small and perfectly formed, however the 'hole' in which the said F/F goes is in imperial measurements (kitchen is 15 years old) and I only had one choice of F/F to buy. I could have had a smaller one to fit, but I utilise it well and a smaller one wouldn't really be practical. So............new one cost £499!
Then the cooling system went on the car, and another £400 down!
Total of money withdraw from Emegency Fund was £1000 !!
So my new total (#17) is £437.00
I was feeling very down about it, but consoled myself with the fact at least I didn't have to use a credit card and that's what the emergency fund is for. So onwards and upwwards and hoping to now start adding to it............

Well done Southern-Girl for having the EF to dip into! Now mine is well established, it's such a weight off my mind to know that I've got it. I could have probably just about managed one mini-emergency from my wages, but two would really have caused a problem. Now I feel a lot more secure with my 'cushion'. How great that you were able to use your EF and not use your credit card.
