If you have new correspondence from the court regarding a hearing then that would be sensible, as otherwise they will continue to write to the address they hold, and if that happens after your move then they will win by your default in not attending.

I'm sure those more expert than I can advise, but if you're leaving the country for more than six years, I am guessing it won't matter since any CCJ will be removed after that period?
  • Not sure I'll be gone for 6 years. Maybe I'll call 📞 them.

  • Why mad to phone them? To discuss the situation/maybe mediation?

Don't be tempted to speak with them.

They will try and trick you into admitting you were the driver.

You won't get anywhere if you phone them; all you risk is incriminating yourself.

You seem to be assuming you're dealing with reasonable people - these are grey area scammers who want nothing more than for you to pay up, they literally care about nothing else.

Absoltely NO WAY do you want to be on the phone to a PPC. Their first agenda is to make you pay up, the second to find out who was driving and record the call and the third aim is to make you feel you have no case and rewind back to (1) = make you pay up.

This industry is not one where you can have a normal conversation, they are not a public-facing trader, not a company which can possibly have any Dept called 'customer services' because they do NOTHING which serves the public. They serve themselves and slosh about in the money of ordinary, hard-working people who are threatened into submission day after day to line the pockets of firms which should not exist.

It is shocking (but not surprising) that the Supreme Court supported this. And my faith in the Government actually making much difference in any new legislation and not just crumbling & bowing to the frantic BPA/IPC lobbying which must be going on right now, is low.

    All we can hope is:

    - what goes around comes around to the worst of these bullies in the end...

    and

    - the supermarkets & retailers & hospitals start to sack them as contracts run out, and realise they DO NOT NEED the protection racket after all because aggression like this does far, far more damage to customers/patients than the 'enforcement' is worth.
