Good morning Snap nice to hear Dad is a little brighter ...I can get where you are coming from re the cutting up of food as this is one beef my Sis has .Her DH was rushed into hospital last week for a blood transfusion ..she went up to visit and they had put a pkt sandwich and a yogurt on his table and Nurse wondered why he had not touched it.He is a stroke victim with no speech and no use in his right side:eek: that's why:(

Chuckling to myself whilst reading this. When I had a stroke aged 34 I was paraysled down my right side with no speech, my OH visited once lunchtime and questioned why I had not eaten my pot of ice cream. I managed to pick up the spoon with my left hand but the pot of ice cream kept moving around the table without the other hand to keep it still.
My OH thought that he could do better than me, he put his right hand behind his back and attempted to eat it one handed, not a chance, still makes me laugh 10 years on!!:rotfl:

:mad::mad::mad: I thought the role of a nurse was to nurse

What happens to young children who also cannot feed themselves?

Will everyone who cannot feed them selves, who has no relatives or friends just starve to death?:eek::eek:

I need some explanation of this before I start a crusade :o

Snap have seen this more than you would believe, one ward had 24 patients, because of their condition about 18 needed assistance with eating, there was only one aux nurse that shift and she could not get round them all, I was in a six bed room and often helped the less able:)

To think this happens is really worrying. I know our nurses are busy but as you say Snap that is what they are there for to nurse people who can't take care of themselves. Like you, I would want answers, and indeed, what does happen to people that have nobody....:(

When I was moved to the Stroke Rehabilitation unit we will all wheeled down to a dining room to eat together. They was another lady trying to eat soup with a fork. It is very frightening how a stroke affects people depending where it hits the brain.

This happens where my mam works. Its meant to be one patient per aux but my mam had 13 to look after the other night. She hasn't got time to do all the ops (sp?) etc and turn them, change the beds because they will only buy thin pads so the poor patients wet the bed 3+ times a night

Such a pretty place. About 12 years ago we went there and we were watching them filming heartbeat. My ds was about 8 months old and he was babbling. One of the production crew turned to him in his buggy and and said shhh. It stills makes me laugh now to think of it. Who tells a baby to shh and expect them to!

It is a lovely place, it goes very scary at night especially after all the tourists go home, reminds of the film, American werewolf in London!!!!!!!
