But a part of the original packaging was missing an item.

Not sure what Trading standards would say to that in regards to a refund. A swap of the item perhaps, or a repair.

But they could also take off the price of the instructions/manual I guess.

To be honest I'm a bit surprised at how someone could lose the instructions to an item (especially a substantial electrical item) in only two weeks. Things like instructions I usually file away to keep permanently.

What's wrong with it? I can't correct anything if you just make a general statement.

Superscraper, don't take the bait ;):)
  • I know.

ASDA are huge. They could of easily just refunded the item. They dont usually expect the item returned to be in an exactly the same condition.

I once returned an item to Currys without the remote and they gave me a refund. But Im pretty sure they didnt have to, but since it was saturday and the sales person was a tad busy...

when something has been bought as recently as 2 weeks ago you are entitled to a full refund on a faulty item. The retailer can offer repair or replacement but they can not insist on it.

But if it's being returned incomplete then it's a different story?

Silly me, I'm looking up the info on the DTI, consumerdirect and Guardian Consumer sites and he wants me to defend the veracity of my posts.
Got to learn not to fall for it.

It was only minus the instuctions which were printed on an A4 sheet of paper.

The long and short of it is, the item is faulty, instructions or no instructions, it still doesn;t work.

I've not lost the instructions, I just didn;t think at the time i'd be refused a refund due to them not being present.
  • You maybe but if you return something incomplete then what?

    Could you verify that please.

Consumer direct were sure that I did not need the instructions in order to gain a full refund on the grounds of faulty goods, I shall update once I have been to Asda
