Hi, does anyone know of a company that can simply lend me £15-20 for a matter of weeks? I know it sounds stupid to most but i just need some basic essentials and I am not in a position to sell any items or borrow off anyone, if I was not desperate i would not be posting on here! I have trawled through the internet with no luck at all. Any tips would be massively appreciated. Thanks

    Hi Franciss 123,
I hope you are ok.That is such a tiny amount to be borrowing,I think you would have trouble getting it from, say,a bank, unless you were able to arrange a temporary overdraft.
We obviously don't know your circumstances, but are you in a position to so some sort of work for people-eg cleaning, ironing, mowing lawn, shopping for the elderly, etc?
Not sure what else to suggest, sorry.Absolutely nobody you could ask for a loan?
    Take care.

  • Hi, Thank you for your reply. I know its so small i thought it would be quite easy for a company to offer. I'm trying what I can but i just seem to be getting nowhere, that is why I thought I would post on here. Thank you anyways.
  • Have you considered pawning an item?
You seem to have a phone or computer to be able to post on here - could this be an answer?
  • Unfortunately not, I no longer have a phone and I have tried selling this computer, it is apparently worthless. As I say, I would not be posting if I had another option.
  • Hi first question are you in work or claiming benefits? How is your income made up? Is the money for absolute necessities I've food, fuel travel to work ? Will your situation be better in a few weeks? Sorry for all the questions but it is easier to help if we understand the bigger pictures. Also appreciate you may not wish to provide details on a public forum even anonymously

Hi, I am embarrassed to admit that i have had to sign on for benefits for the first time in my life because i have fallen on hard times, however I will not receive a payment for weeks. I sort of shot myself in the foot a bit for prolonging actually trying to receive help. I'm sincerely hoping I can find work before I even receive a payment. The money is for food, we don't even have a food bank where I live, it is a train ride away which I also don't have money for!

I think the problem for larger organisations is it isn't worth their while lending £15-20-paperwork,time,man-hours,etc.
Do you pay your gas/electricity by direct debit?Have you built up any credit? After being with my energy company for 12 months,I found I had built up over £300 in credit.A phone-call lasting 5 minutes (where they did a bit of maths to make sure it wasn't going to be short covering the winter months),and the whole £300+ was transferred by BACSinto my account.
Are you expecting the £15-20 to last a few weeks?I still think if you can find something you can dip in and out of is the way to go (I am a self-employed cleaner, charging £11/hour.I happen to have regular customers, but I did used to do alot of one-off cleans.)Do a 2-3 hour clean every few days.......Alot of people even expect to provide their own cleaning products,so you wouldn't need to fork out for those.
I loathe ironing.Would definitely pay to have someone do that..........

  • Ok so first benefits are there to help so please don't feel bad about it. You might be able to get a short term benefit advance. Dip don't like to advertise these and do make you jump through some hoops but it's worth a try. Be persistent and ask for it as I said. Then look on you local council website. They will hide it away so you will need to search but most have local emergency help. It's often a single payment but it's worth finding out. Your local advice service will know about other charitable help food banks, free lunches etc. I know in some ways it's harder in rural areas. Also don't forget your local church hey may be able to direct you to sources of help. If you have children social services may help as a last resort. Above all do not be embarrassed you should not be put in this position. When did you apply for benefits-it should not take weeks unless there are problems with your claim. Good luck I am sure things will improve for you.
  • Hi, thanks for the advice. I'm not really sure how I would get into cleaning, just knocking on doors and asking? I have found that i can get by on £10 a week buying just the basics. As long as i can eat thats all that really matters right now until i can get back on track. I will certainly try and look on the local council website and I will visit my local church. I only applied on Friday and they said it would take weeks for my first payment to come through, they never said there were any issues, just that this is the procedure. Thankfully I do not have children, I think it would break my heart for them to be in this position with me! I understand the benefits system is there to help but I have never been in this position before. Thank you again for your advice and kind words.

Do you not have any parents / siblings / partner / friends you can ask?

How are you paying for rent / utilities?

Can you not ask your bank for an overdraft? Do you not have any credit cards?
