Your friend at Shell can confirm then that Triple QX is actually rebranded shell oil yes?

I am fairly certain that Triple QX is formulated by Tetrosyl.

Changing grade oil can help improve mpg by 2-5. If you go from a 15w-40 to 5w-30.

    No

    It can't

The cheap stuff is usually made with a high percentage of recycled engine oil (this is what happens to waste oil).

    Link please?

As I haven't seen recycled oil for sale in over 15yrs

errrm £59 for 20 litres is a pretty good deal.

Yes, 229.51 Mercedes branded oil is £59 on eBay. LINK

However, when Triple QX 5w30 C3 meets the same spec and is Merc approved (was tested by them!) and is about £48 for the same qty it was an easy choice :money:. 3 oil changes in my C Class C220 CDI for about £16 each - the b***** takes 6.5 litres!

Again, like already mentioned will try to change the oil twice a year (at about 5-6K) as I do a lot of urban crawling, sorry driving.

Finally, having an oil extractor means I can do the oil change in a nice white shirt....

I would point out that there are oils that "meet" Mercedes specs, the oil manufacturer would claim that.

And Mercedes "Approved" oil which is likely to come from Mercedes and likely a result of the oil manufacturer paying to have the oil tested.

AddisonLee have a few hundred E220cdi and they buy their parts from EuroCarParts. They use Petronas not Triple QX.

If I had to top up and had no choice then I would use Triple QX but otherwise I wouldn't

I can't see the value of using a cheaply produced own brand oil when the saving over a better quality product is slight at best.

But then I am fussy when it comes to oil filters and air filters aswell.

Though I don't consider £3 an oil change to be something worth bothering about.

If I was buying a used car I would be inclined to buy one with receipts showing use of Mercedes branded oil instead of the one with receipts for Triple QX
