is there any difference between cheap ECP own brand vs castrol, mobile1, petronas etc

Just curious if there is a big difference in quality in oils. I've always used Triple QX oil, which I can get 5ltr for £12.50. Super Cheap.

But for the DIY servicer the cost difference between TripleQX and castrol edge for instance isn't much (£20). So I dont mind spending more money if it's going to make a difference.

For me oil is just oil it's all the same. Just get a cheap bottle of semi syn from local supermarket £15 for 5 litre which can be use for any car.

Something to bear in mind, in the 80's and 90's it was the engine that died first. Nowadays the engine is the last piece to fail. Ususally clutch, gearbox, turbo etc will go once or twice before the engine goes, most of the time the engine never even dies before the car is scrapped - the market value of the car reaches sub £1000 that the car is scrapped when a major repair/service such as a timing belt or clutch is due.

My view would be different if the car I was driving was an affinity car or was a model with timing chain and turbo that needed to use oil that would not gunk up.

Just fill it with recycled chip fat with no air filter your engine will be on borrowed time anyway.

Well done on the posting style, you've really stepped it up a notch. Some signs are still there, though. Keep going until I'm certain.

Damn, I'd missed it myself, but now I look back through the posting history the clues are there...

  • I'm sure I read somewhere that Triple QX is made by Shell, but don't take my word for it . . .

I've never really bothered about the make of oil I use. As long as it meets the specs for my car it's good enough.

I called him as DM after three or four posts.

He has tried to change his style a bit but you can spot him if you look.

Going back to no DM matters I personally avoid cheap stuff like Triple QX and Halfords own brand or similar.

Petronas oil is used by Addison Lee to service their E Class Mercs, they buy all their parts for the Mercs from ECP.

ECP have a money off offer at the moment "extra10" which works for online and collection orders.

For the savings of a few pound I don't see the point.

Especially if you are a member of Costco as you can get Mobil 1, Castrol Magnatec or Edge and Chevron oil for really good prices.

Saving £10 or so on something that stays in the engine for thousands of miles seems pointless.
