First-up, you need to remember that the Blue Badge does not apply on private property - Its the Equality Act that applies here and that applies to all suitably disabled people, regardless of their having a badge or not.

Also, the number of people who have the right to demand to examine a Blue Badge is rather small - and it does not include supermarket staff, private parking employees or indignant able-bodied citizens.

So unless they can produce a Warrant Card or suitable Local Authority ID, I suggest you tell them to squat and rotate. Whilst making a note of any numbers/IDs etc as there are a number of potential crimes of varying levels of severity being committed here.

If you do want to take any further action, you could be questioning any security camera footage at the store. They must retain it for 30 days but have to keep it for longer if you may require it fr evidence. Information Comissioners site will give you full details and your local EHRC office can offer more info on the Equalities Act.

Yes probably a little harsh, genuinely sorry pogofish I hope I didn't offend you.

The point I was trying to make is that it's probably more beneficial to just let these things go than kick up a fuss or report a disability hate crime just because someone is being a bit ignorant.

That simply means that you reinforce the perpetrators view that it is perfectly acceptable to speak to another human being like that.

The only way this will stop is to bring them to justice.

I have a very thick skin!

I'm also all for being very reasonable but with the backing of fact for when you inevitably run into someone with an utterly unreaslisic idea of how a disabled person should look and behave.

Agreed but rethought by the poster who objected, so no harm done.

Pogo's comment was useful for me because last year, after a major foot rebuild, at the point that I could drive, but walking was difficult with a stick or crutches, I never parked in a disabled bay ( though I must admit that when my husband (blue badge holder because of a serious heart condition which severely limits his walking) did, I did heave a sigh of relief). I would have loved to have been nearer but I didn't, I went to shops where I could park nearer without using a disabled pay.

One thing incensed me. A Bentley, sans blue badge, parked across TWO disabled bays. I parked behind the car and did let him know what I thought. One bay is okay. Two is not.

If I am driving (now recovered from op) I drop my husband at the door and park normally.

We should not allow people to get away with abusing us just because they can't see what's wrong, although wearing a flashing big sign above me saying i have MS may be ott.

Up until last year i lived next door to a nasty neighbour who said there was nothing wrong with me and i should not be in the bungalow that was provided to me due to mobility and he was going to get me kicked out.

I did complain to the council about this neighbour and was told the family were known as troublemakers, they were told off, so the neighbour put up cctv and pointed it into my garden, the police were called and told him i had a disability, The neighbour had low iq and just wouldn't accept that because there was no visible disability then i could not possibly be disabled.

I'm fighting my employers at the moment, they accept i have MS as they have written to my consultant who confirmed it, but they refuse to acknowledge that there are so many things that can happen to me with no notice, my manager scoffed at me because i needed to get home asap as i was fatigued and know that i needed to lie down asap because i needed to sleep.

I'm tired of fighting this disease i don't have the strength to fight those who ridicule me and verbally abuse me because they are ignorant

You say you shouldn't let people get away with abusing you but then you go on to explain two examples of you reporting someone to the council and then the police that have negatively impacted you. I think you should be selfish and just ignore them, save your time and energy for yourself not teaching someone else.

You say yourself you don't have the strength to fight them so don't bother, if its good enough for Gandi.
