I visited a supermarket and on the till next to a couple having a hissy fit.
They put the vast majority of their shopping in those clear produce bags, cat food pouches, soap, washing powder (the non MSE 10 wash box for £3.50 size) and frozen fish fingers
The cashier then a supervisor explained that these bags can only be used for loose fruit and veg and raw meat and fish since Oct 5th. Then said none of these things mentioned above, plus a few more aren't exempt.
The couple had none of it. The supervisor suggested to have a couple of single use bags in their bag of bags to stick these cleaning stuff etc.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about.
I was well aware that this was going to happen and when.
Came back from holiday last Thursday and called into SPAR shop at the airport to pick up some milk.
As I'd got a suitcase & jam-packed hand luggage I asked for a bag and the assistant said 'it will be 5p'.
The penny dropped and I said 'no thanks'.
How hard is it to carry a bag-for-life in your bag?
I've got a selection from various places all folded up on the shelf next to my front door and pop a couple into my bag whenever I'm going out and might buy something.
When we do a 'big shop', I take a wodge of them plus cardboard wine containers.
Over the years, I have saved lots of M&S/Next/Debenhams etc clothes bags and have been in the habit of taking them out with me if I'm shopping in case I buy something from a charity shop.0 -

That really made me laugh, not at the cashier (i feel sorry for them) but at the couple for having the cheek to do this, it would never even have crossed my mind!
I am finding that when I turn up at a shop and have forgotten a bag. I ask for one, the cashier always looks a bit nervous when they say 'that will be 5p' as soon as i say 'yes I know thats fine' you can see the look of relief go across their face.0 -

I hope any observing customers of situations like this give the idiots a piece of their minds.0 -
I don't mind paying for bags (well I do !) but the ones in Tesco keep flipping well ripping apart. Nearly broke a bottle of wine when the bag broke - luckily it was just as I was putting it in the boot which is softer than a concrete floor.
Where does this 5p go to? I get the big stores but what about the little corner shops - couldn't they just keep that extra 5p for themselves I mean who flipping well checks if they've sent the money to a charity or not!0 -

If the bag ripped, there's nothing to stop you taking it back the same as any other purchase.0 -
