Very few people I suspect, most would maybe thought that?:D0 -
If I'm buying clothes or shoes I'm paying for a bag, there's no way I'll bung new clothes in an old bag.0

Is it only in England they have this problem with a plastic bag?
I don't remember this Ho Ha when they introduced it in the other three countries in the British Isles!I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Now I realise it is only 5p, but it led me to think will I have to pay for a bag if I buy clothes from stores?
Surely this is not what was intended with the new rules. How could you be expected to put a coat for example in the reusable grocery type bag.
I've been following the debate for a while, and didn't realise that the more heavy-duty type of bags used for clothes by M&S etc was included in the legislation; had it in my head, either from skim-reading the actual legislation or on here, that it was for single-use bags, ie the very flimsy supermarket ones, and not the more sturdy department store type, which I have never thought of as 'single use'.
Listening to the debates at the clothes' tills last Monday, at least we're not the only ones to misunderstand that aspect...0 -

You're not expected to do anything other than pay 5p for a bag if you want one. You could put the coat in any container -- a rucksack, shopping bag, plastic bag, suitcase, holdall, or not in a container at all.
The new rules require shops to charge 5p for a bag, with a few exceptions. It seems so simple, I can't work out what the problem is.
Surely it's easier to carry a coat or shoebox than it is to carry a week's-worth of groceries without a bag. And carrying groceries without a bag isn't what was intended with the new rules. So I can't see why carrying a coat/shoes would be more incomprehensible than carrying all your groceries.
Next time, why not negotiate the price of the shoes/coat and say you want a 5p discount? Then use the 5p you saved to buy a bag!0
