as for March.. its a great time of year to go as it is a bit quieter than busy periods, though later on in the month, it will get busier, because easter is early this year

    Help :o

Have booked a week's cheap flight & have only just realised how expensive the hotels are:o

I'd originally wanted a studio flat so we could cook in house, but the cheapest I could find ( 8-15 March) came to about £850:eek: Have not had the heart to look at hotels yet,

Was I just being a lot naive about hotel prices? Help.. This was suppossed to be a big birthday (with an 0 in it;)) surprise, but I may have to put up with wasting the flight money.

    £687 for the hotel i'll be at... and seriously.. i'm there from the 5th - 11th.. :D..
this is how good i think the hotel is (Cosmopolitan Hotel, Tribeca) i stay there, and i'm that confident you won't complain at me, i'll even recommend it when i'm staying there..
rooms are small, bathroom is small, it can be noisy outside (but this is New York), but it is clean, clean, clean, and has a great location..

apartments are normally more expensive, and i currently can't fidn anything cheaper than you already have..

I have booked to stay at the POD (formerly Pickwick Arms) in early Feb so I will make sure to report back on what its like. The price is pretty reasonable for that area of Manhattan and I was reassured by all the reveiws saying how clean it was. The only downsides people reported were the rooms being on the small side
and there may be nosie because its a 'young' hotel but thats not an issue as OH and I both sleep like the dead and generally don't sleep much when we are in NYC anyway.

Probably would have taken up MarkyMoos recommendation had I seen it earlier though :)

floyd.. take a peek at tripadvisor.com and search for Cosmopolitan Hotel, Tribeca.. It is full of good reviews, and about 40 photos that you can browse though...

also the http://www.cosmohotel.com/ website has been updated, and there are some good photos on there now.

i'm staying in a standard room, and my sister has booked on of the loft rooms, so i'll try get some photos and place them online this time round.... taking photos of my hotel room hasn't really been my top priority in NYC when i've gone the past few time.... *lol*

    ha ha cheers

We normally stay with friends in Brooklyn or Bayonne or in an apartment in the East Village but all were already booked up or have relatives visiting so we were forced into the world of scary hotels!

We are regulars now, favourite City in the world so its nice to know that there are recommended places that won't break the bank :)

    Marky,

Looking at booking the Cosmo now...

Just noticed on your other thread

'hotelconxions.com is a good website for hotel booking. they have good prices on most hotels, however, charge in US$, so dust off that Nationwide card when booking!!!'

I've only got a visa debit to pay on - will I get charged a fee?

Noticed the price for my dates is $960 - what type of room shall I go for? Loft?

    Thanks mate,

    Craig

is it a nationwide visa debit??

nationwide cards don't charge fees, last nights exchange rate was $1.98 without a fee, but my sisters card charged her a fee, and it worked out at $1.92, so thats the kinda difference..

i'm 6'4 tall, so i've never stayed in a loft room... however, my sister is having one of them this time, so i can report on them when i come back!

I have mentioned it several times on this board:

Try staying in either New Jersey or Secaucus Meadowlands.

On Hotwire at present for your nights (8th March -15th) is what is probably the La Quinta Clifton
This is for $59 per night (+ taxes).

A recent review of a hotwire winner is here on Betterbidding

Get over to Betterbidding, register and ask the question as to where to stay and for a bidding strategy.

As a Tip it may be better if you split your stay between hotels as the popular Hyatt at Jersey City usually is available Fri-Sun only.

Here's a handy guide as to how Priceline and to some extent Hotwire works
    Good luck

Thanks for the prompt reply mate!

My card is a Halifax debit card so I guess i'd have to pay and accept the lower exchange rate.

Going ahead to book it now!!! Should work out about £500

Just seen it adds taxes and fee's to that hotel booking on hotelconxions! so slightly more expensive than I thought...

    Anyway thanks for your help.

Booked it now, when is payment taken?
