I'm off to New York in 10 days - have booked 3 nights in Ramada New Yorker (and got first night free!!!) but am away for 5 altogether.... (just too tight to commit to 5 nights at once!.

Anyway - for the remaining 2 nights I can either go 'budget' with its potential cockroaches and rats (see trip advisor) or gamble on Priceline.

Now, I'm a gamblin' sort of gal ... but only when I think I can win. I can choose the area and go for a 3*. The normal price for the Ramada is $249 for midweek nights. I've had a quick look on Priceline and they say you could potentially save 50% - so if I put in a price of, 130$ am I likely to get a room? If not - what sort of rate should I be looking to go to?

    Hi RedBern
Well I booked Las Vegas 5* option with PL and got the Venetian hotel with a very nice suite for about £80 a night a couple of years ago. I think there is a website forum where people post recent priceline wins http://www.flyertalk.com/forum if I remember rightly.
Anyway see if it has NY listed
    Good luck Al

  • Markymoo, I thought I disliked NY when I visited, but your pic of the Cosomopolitan Hotel, just pulled at my heart strings and brought back some great memories of my visit there several years ago, including some delish butter crumb cake in the coffee shop at Maiseys dept store. Thanksfor the great pic. StJim

Pop over to Betterbidding, register and ask the question there.

State your dates of stay, area and budget.

Theruare will sort you out with a strategy.

Of course, read my guide as GTB has said :o

There have been wins in the 4* level for your dates at about $175.

3* tend to be only slightly lower winning bids so quite often it's better to go for a 4*.

    Good luck.

Wish I'd seen this before I went to NY for the first time, the ho(s)tel me and sis booked was a bargin (worked out at about £20 a nite) and the broom cupboard we had must of been built around the bunkbeds, you could lay on the bed and touch all 4 walls, you had to have the door open if you wanted to do anything, and we shared the bathroom with the rest of the floor!!!!

We spent most of time in the city, and only slept in the room, so it suited...wouldn't do it again though!!!

If anyone wants to avoid it, its the Washington hotel in Harlem (I think it was on 125th St)

Hi Im hoping you can advise me please.
Im travelling to New York-Newark NJ from Edinburgh on 24th January 2008. I need a room for only 1 night as I am taking a cruise begining on the 25th. Leaves from the Cape Liberty Cruise port on the New York harbour Bayonne.
So looking for somewhere close to the Port. But handy for the airport if that makes sense. ;-) Also want to do a bit of quick sightseeing on the day. Want a decent hotel.
So advice on all of the above ;-) please.
    Thanks
  • We're in New York over Christmas/New Year and had terrible trouble finding accomodation within our budget. We're now renting an apartment privately through an advert we found on Craigslist...works out £100 a night for self catering studio apartment 4 blocks from Times Square.

cosmopolitan hotel is always my nomination for someone who has no preference of where to stay.. i may sound like a broken record, but it is a good hotel, it is in a nice location, and it is clean, you can't go wrong, you don't have to go anywhere far for food as there is loads around you
