doubt you will find many places with breakfast included, but if we take your budget to be £97 a night for the room, that will leave you about $5 for breakfast, which is plenty at any local deli..

you don't say exactly which dates you are wanting to go.. have you tried all the usual websites like hotels.com hotelconxions.com and expedia.co.uk etc etc?? they're your first bet to try and find a hotel you like,

then of course there is priceline and hotwire... there are some threads around on those, and how to get a good price..

why not further away than greenwich, as i've said in many posts before the cosmopolitan hotel is a great hotel, in tribeca, and about 10 mins away on an express subway to midtown...
  • Hi,

Sorry, forgot to put in the dates!

I need a hotel from 6th April - 9th April (3 nights). I suppose I dont need breakfast but I thought it would make life a bit easier. Not essential though. I don't know New York that well and that was my primary reason for staying in Manhattan (that and being able to get to JFK airport in a reasonable time).

I had a quick look on hotels.com and it just seemed to throw up loads of hotels near the airports. I was hoping someone on here might have some insider knowledge.

Greenwich and below are some of the best bits IMO :D Love the east village and lower east side

All the cheapest hotels are near the airports, but it takes about an hour to travel in to manhattan each day. Not good if you're only there for 4 days / 3 nights...

breakfast is rarely included in budget hotels, but as breakfast is so cheap, you really don't need to worry. most deli's in NYC will do a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and a coffee (pronounced cawfee) for less than $2...

i agree floyd that the best areas of NYC are Greenwich village and below, you have the real new york there, rather than the overly touristy new york. Now, i know you'll want to visit to do the tourist attractions, which is great, but think about your evenings, when you've got back from the show, or you're searching for a good restaurant, these are harder to find in midtown etc than in greenwich, soho, tribeca, etc..

enough babbling, some hotel suggestions.. £100 a night you say?
The Cosmopolitan Hotel in tribeca (gotta be first, i stay there!) works out at $591.79 for the 3 nights including taxes, so an exchange rate of 1.88 it works out to be £314.37 (or £104.78 per night)

Latham Hotel (on 28th Street) works out at $488.22 for 3 nights, £259.69

St James Hotel (on E45th Street) works out at $594.09or £316.01

looking at trip advisor ratings on all these 3 hotels, they come in the following places out of 339.
    Cosmo - 66th
    Latham - 201st
    St James - 174th
    Beekman Tower - 104th

Read the trip advisor reviews, and make an informed choice. You may find other options if you search other websites, try expedia, because you can choose which area of NYC you want to stay in, and it then gets rid of the airport hotels from your search results...

    Hope that helps...
  • Hi, You can try this, but it needs to be booked by 25th January and travel by 31st March. ope this helps someone.

I think you can find plenty of places throughout the whole of Manhattan for under £130 a night.. my previous post demonstrated that fact! ;)

Also, with that price of $179, that EXCLUDES ALL TAXES, when adding them on, it works out at $208 per night, or £110

if you read my guide to getting into and around manhattan, you would already know the answer this this question ;)

    i'll answer it briefly though

Get on at 42nd street Times Square station, a 2 or 3 express train. Wait in the off hours waiting area, which is marked by a huge yellow sign, and the station security / staff on duty can see you. Also, when the train pulls up, it will be nearest the guards van. Once on the train, it will stop at to 14th street, and then Chambers street (which is where you get off until about 0.30, then the express service stops, and its local trains only.) and then you follow the signs to the North East Exit, which will bring you out exactly outside the starbucks and the cosmo hotel.

trains are every 10 minutes at night, cost $2, or you can use your metrocard, and it takes 8 minutes!

Definately agree with this, we travelled on the subway out to Brooklyn, Queens and the far reaches of the Bronx and up to Harlem and never once felt threatened at any time of the day.
