Going to New york on Sunday,
*what is the best option/network for calling/ texting home( 2 or 3 times at the most) and texting each other when we are there.
*Is the city of the office clerk on the grayline hop on/off route.
*Is it safe for a camcorder & camera to go through the xray machine at the airports.
    cheers
wife had to phone home most days to check on our disabled son,she switched her phone on in new york after landing and it found at+t network, was suprisingly cheap to text and phone uk with them
not sure what you mean by city of clerk office? but grayline passes city hall, most places downtown are accesisable thru certain stops, with a short walk

Hi guys, I'm off to New York on the 16th December with Air France (although it says it's operated by Delta Airlines). Has anyone flown with them before and know what they're like? I'm hoping for individual screens for entertainment but I'm guessing I'm just being optimistic?

And on the way back, we're flying with KLM from JFK to Manchester (via Amsterdam). Has anyone flown with them and know the baggage allowance? I've checked the KLM website and it's quite confusing!

I didn't find the flights nearly as bad as I expected. Although my experience with Zoom ain't a lot of use to anyone else now they've gone bust ... But we flew out during the day and came back overnight, I stayed awake going out and dozed through the films on the way back.

Our flight last week was a codeshare Air France/Delta - no individual screens but plenty of 'public' ones you can see easily enough we had 3 in view 1 large 2 smaller.
The staff in the air were very good and efficient they served loads of drinks and the food decent for airline.
The JFK Delta check-in staff were the most surly, rude and lacking in customer service skills I have ever come across though.

i never had any problems with delta checkin staff at JFK... luck of the draw really..

anyway... on another point, I ain't around here much these days, as you're well aware, but as there are many more NYC experts on here now, i'm gonna take a bit of a break... i'm going to go through the threads, and pick out some of the most useful tidbits, of advice i've handed out over the past year or so, and probably create a thread to add on as "useful advice".

Enjoy NYC, my 10 trips to the greatest city in the world, have been amazing!

    Thanks for all the fun!

Markymoo when you're going through could you do a huge favour and pick out any generally useful posts and either PM me or post on here? I'll then add them to the first post. Your 'useful advice' thread sounds good :D

Don't know how long the break is going to be, but I'm sure you'll be back soon!

Come to think of it, I've not seen Mr Bear around lately

A huge thank you from me and all who've benefitted from your advice and guidance since this thread was started

Im looking to book my seats for NY in Feb, and looking on the virgin site, we are flying on an airbus, but there does not seem to be many available seats left on our outward flight 09.25 from heathrow, and on the return 22.25 from JFK there seems to be lots of seats available at the back of the plane. Now I am not sure if its just me, but I seem to have some psychological thing about sitting at the back of the plane as I do with trains.

Does anyone know if Virgin just release a set number of seats before hand, and then on the day of the flight more are available? Mrs SDF has given me strict instructions to make sure we are together...Ideally I would like a seat near the door.
  • I flew with Air France/ Delta in September and would highly reccomend them, the food was good, plenty of included refreshments, very friendly and helpful cabin crew, we did have individual seatback screens with a good choice of films, music, games, etc..
I also found the check-in staf at JFK rude and ignorant but onboard everything was great.
