NO!!!! tip the driver at least 15%... a dollar or two is an insult, and that is why brits are always called bad tippers!

as per advice i got from elsewhere, we tipped 15-20% to cab drivers, and tipped the shuttle drivers $5-7 or so each way

it was more a 'phrase' when i said a dollar or two

Or dont tip at all, what the hell are they gonna do about it start a war, mind u............

I find the whole tipping culture quite offensive when you are forced to tip, dont get me wrong if someone gives great service then sure tip them but being forced into tipping people because its their culture is a nonsense.

You should tip what you feel appropriate and no more.

and why (especially outside NYC ) the food is so cheap and the soft drinks get refilled for nothing.
some of my favourite eateries are dirt cheap even with a 20+ % tip ....the service is also far superior to most you encounter in europe.

I would realise how important it is to get a new job, hell they could work in Mc D's and earn more money.

I dont see why customers should have to pick up the slack of these peoples employers.

I thought this was a moneysaving website and tipping for average service is not moneysaving in my book dont get me wrong I do tip but I never feel obliged to tip just because someone bought me some food or drove me somewhere.

but that isn't how the system works in the States.....when in Rome etc.
  • It's not a tip it's a service charge, you have had the service pay for it.
  • Thanks for that... it seems the price of flights are going up, Should have booked mid week when I saw it instead of leaving it to the weekend. Would have prefered to fly with virgin though!! What are continental like? Trying to find codes for ebookers to see if I can bring the cost down any more. Is £500 a good price for 4 nights in NY and is 4 nights enough time?? ThankS!!
Web dillied and dallied before booking but eventually got a great deal from Expedia.
Have a play around the dates you want.
I found the exact deal we wanted New York and hotel for £1560. Left it a couple of days and it was gone - thought we would never go then I stuck the following week's date into Expedia and got the same deal for £1422 - four people flying with Delta Manchester - Jfk and hotel - room only.

I don't know what Continental are like but if anything like Delta I would book!.
