Blimey! You could do it Celebrity Jungle style, buy a 10kg bag of rice for £6 and have that everydayDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0

I forgot to mention our wonderful plum, pear and apple trees!
We have lots of fruit on them so that will do for fruit for lunches and puds for a treat. We have our own fresh herbs too which I grow.0 -
Baking will definitely help-lots of stodge, potato, pasta, dumplings, pancakes make a really filling dessert so a soup and bread meal finished with pancakes. A whole chicken used for at least 2 meals or even three.
I find spices and seasonings are essential-I get through LOTS of soy sauce and Worcester Sauce.
My cats eventually learned to "go" outside by gradually moving the tray closer and closer to the door and eventually outside. I then marked the required area with litter for a couple of days and they got the hang of it-especially when the tray vanished from sight outside.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Hi there
I think i might have a go at doing this with you :A ... we have been in germany for 3 weeks now and after trying a couple of supermarkets...im reverting back to Aldi and Lidl... in the uk lidl do bread flour that my mum always uses and she makes the best bread ever,
they also do a good mature cheddar (a black wrapper i think) which you can cut up and freeze so it doesnt get eaten in waste - my hubbies crime:rolleyes: ....
Im a carbohydrate addict....so sliced potatoes and onions in a dish and then a drop of milk or half a stock cube dissolved in water makes a lovely warming tea...especially with a slice of homemade bread , cover them with a lid/foil until cooked and then take it off to crisp up... i also drop some bacon on top for the last few mins sometimes too
As others have said..pasta is a good filling ingredient...
Im affraid i cant help with the cat...although you can get a chicken for a couple of £s, which should easily do roast dinners for you both twice and the leftovers can make pasta bakes....or lucky cat could have them...
If you like soups though, drop the carcass in a pan, cover with water and simmer to make stock, strip any little bits off and add to the stock, add a tin of sweetcorn - blitz it in the liquidiser with the water in the tin, thicken with a little cornflour and season and you have a really cheap chicken n sweetcorn soup.....you can always throw in a few frozen peas and its is so tasty and filling..some soy sauce is nice too but it makes it go a bit mucky looking...but a pan full of soup for the price of a tin of sweetcorn cant be bad.... my hubby adores it....
oh im rattling on...i will come back when some more ideas come to me.... but im goint to make a list and see if i can do it with you..thats about 20euros for me a week:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
The cat did go outside for a while and then we moved house and so she got a bit annoyed and starting going inside again, even though she is allowed out in the garden. And the persistent rain isn't helping trying to train her!
Having a partner would be great Mrsmcawber!
That chicken soup sounds divine too.0 -
If there's a Costco anywhere near you they do big 10Kg sacks of dry complete cat food for about £7 or so, it's all my cats eat and a big sack like that lasts 3 months.
Edit: nevermind, just read your post about her not eating dry food!0 -
Hi there dbelle
Im deffinitely going to join you....just have to work out my shoppin list:D .. luckily my hubby will eat what is put in front of him:T .... i qualified as a chef when i was 18...many moons ago! so i must admit to being quite good at sticking my head in the fridge and making up concoctions-trouble being that if it goes down well i can never make it exactly the same again:rotfl:
i will go and sort out a menu and shopping list and post it here when its done... im sure someone out there will be able to point out where i could cut back even further :j ..oooohhhh you have me all excited now:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
For the cat try on the pet board. Dry is better for them as it helps with the teeth etc aswell. I have a theory with animals, if they are hungry they will eat it. I used to be the type to say 'My dog only likes............' 'My cat only likes........' now it's a case of my animals get what they are given.
£60 for the month will be hard, no doubt will be helpful if you have a good store cupboard to boost it. To be honest I could probably do £120 for a family fo 4 if I needed to, have done before, I spend about £15-£20 a week on fruit and veg.
www.mysupermarket.co.uk can be a good site to compare Sainsbury's, Tesco and ASDA. Everything helps when on a tight budget.
If you have a market/greengrocers might be worth a look, I've always found Sainsbury's F&V very poor value and not very good quality. One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I recommend getting a bag of soya mince from holland & barrett, the savoury one is better than the normal one, and using that for spag bol/ cottage pie/ chilli etc. Its about a pound a bag, and it really good, nad lasts forever!
If you make bread, then you can make pizza bases, and out of this youll get at least one meal for 2 out of it, if not more. I make pizza topping with half a sliced onion, 3 opr 4 mushrooms, a handful of defrosted sweetcorn and chorizo , although Ive left this out before whne we havent had any in and its been perfectly acceptable, likewise a bit of shredded left over chicken, a slice of chopped ham etc.... use up some of them herbs too
I think its entirely possible to do 60.00 even with a dwindling store cupbaord. and will be definately keeping an eye on this thread to see what else I can offer and learn! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
