Thanks for your reply Mark. I really didn't mean to upset you. Thanks for the name calling. Long time since someone has referred to me being silly. Anyway call me what you will, I shall still sleep well tonight. Yes I agree - I don't like George Osborne, what is the problem with that?

I think we may have met briefly a few years ago on HPC when you were Mark Weston. Another equally time wasting forum for those who wouldn't say boo to a goose if they were bring spoken to directly. Never mind - I'll be back at work soon. It always intrigues me how some of you can post back so quickly on here after a response. What kind of busy jobs and lives you must have - at least I've got an excuse at the moment. These sights are no good for your blood pressure, although mine was fairly low this week so needs raising slightly.

I know of teacher's plight and how hard most (not all) work & have friends as teachers. One of my closest friends used to fall asleep whilst marking work from exhaustion.

I managed to remove my son out of the school he was going to last year as some of the teachers were not up to the job. It is a school flanked by two large council estates with the supposedly respectable bit in the middle (where we live on our TC). I started helping them out voluntarily but could see they had written off the majority of pupils. Amazing how many teachers whizzed out of those gates at 3pm. On the other hand the new school he is at has nurtured and inspired him and is doing well with supportive parents.

He told me of an incident after he'd left the old school - didn't have the courage beforehand as I'd have been at the HM's office straightaway. One of his teachers apparently said after another eventful day of the never ending low level disruption "I don't care what happens to you lot get in your exams - I'll still getting paid". She also spent most time on the sick. Apparently she is still there so hasn't been found out yet by the Superhead.

No it isn't. 'Dog whistle politics' is where you make a statement that is only heard by those whom at it is direcly aimed. A 'narrative' of anything, by defintion, says what it says.
Thats exactly what I was saying! Osbornes message about people getting up for work while the benefit receiving neighbour stays in bed etc! The 'whistle' is aimed at the people who think they are being cheated by having to support the scroungers through their taxes!.....hence their sanctimoniousness and 'moral superiority' tosh!

You accuse your political opponents of 'dog whistle politics' just because you think it's something bad, you use words like 'narrative' to describe the arguments that your political opponents are making becuase that implies that they are making things up, and throw in a few words such as 'sanctimonious', 'Victorian' and 'judgemental' for good measure.

    It's just empty rhetoric.

Its not empty rhetoricThey are making things up (ie the tories)....they are describing a world that they want the public to believe is reality....whereas the reality is actually very different. they choose a germ of truth and expand it into a whole narrative.....bit like the producers of 'Benefit Street' .....if you like:rotfl:It's divisive and corrosive!

MartinSurrey - we don't have an income of 32.6K - that is the cutoff threshold with two children. If we had that income we would get zilch. We have less than that. The threshold for one child is 25k. We will be over that when my son leaves school in a couple of years. It tapers down at 41p in the £. There are a lot of people in this situation who would be affected by this.

We are fortunate to have a mortgaged home but some of our children's friends don't and are renting at £600-700 a month, some of them on a wage similar to ours would be able to claim some Housing Benefit & if the changes had gone through the HB burden would be even higher!

Very true. I know people of all sorts of political persuasions, all of them really nice people without an evil bone in their bodies.

But the only ones who post about politics on social media are the left wing ones, others just ignore them mostly because they know that if they dare to disagree they'd get called stupid or selfish, though in a much politer yet perhaps more patronising way! So they don't bother, they let them rant and ignore them when they post about anything political. And the other lefties will agree and they'll all agree how evil the Tories are etc etc.

The really funny thing was seeing them express complete shock at the election result! "But who voted Conservative, no-one I know support them"! :rotfl:
I think you are right ......but they do tend to keep stum in the pub....wonder why?:rotfl:

give us a narrative of what you think a family should receive who

-one works 24 hours per week on minimum wage job
    -one is stay at home
-they have 3 school age children
-their rent is 500 per month
-their council tax is 35 pm

Probably because they are at work rather than sitting at the bar waiting for the mines to reopen, spending their benefits on beer whilst preaching left wing mantras.

Thanks CLAPTON - he has been doing mocks this week. Trust me to end up in hospital on his first day. He's just come home, finished for the week. He ended up with an A on the marking scheme but there's some room for improvement & I'll have a word with him tomorrow. Friday night is chill out night.

It's not a grossly unfair policy. Is it fair that my partner works what amounts to 50+ hour weeks but earns less than someone on tax credits?
So why did he withdraw it....surely a man of principle would have fought for it! It was political expediency of the highest order! Many politicians do it but lets at least call a spade a spade!
