In fairness it is my first year of doing them so religiously, I'm clearly not as well trained as the seasoned professionals :rotfl:
On the plus side I have had an advent win, a jelly belly hamper :j
Well done on the win.
I have to agree with the 'advent comp fatigue' thing. I missed a couple of days because I was away, but I've come back to being way behind on the comp thread, and with doing the advents, I've barely touched the CTW's either.
I have to admit that my attitude towards them has been a bit 'meh' this year, because not only are some of them rather stingy, it's also the fact that this year is so BORING. It seems to be all the same type of questions and just feels lazy. Although tbh, it does bring out the best in sob stories.
It seems to be getting worse every year. Some of the prizes are also beyond naff. The fun seems to have gone out of it.
And another thing, how come some of the same names - especially on FB, seem to do so well every year, and the rest of us don't get so much as a sniff? Are we doing something wrong? Beginning to think Father Christmas doesn't like us lol. Surely we haven't been naughty all year?

Amen to the sob-stories! they are bad enough during the rest of the year but people seemed to have stepped it up a bit during the adventsI Have had four wins on FB so far this month and two last month... but noting for a few months before that. Twitter is dead as a dodo

On the subjest of sob stories...
When asked:
What is top of your Christmas list?
or
What are you hoping to receive for Christmas this year?
I tend to answer 'a soup maker' or 'a slow cooker', both of which I would love to receive, but it does bug me some what when some people use a sob story....
'All I want for Christmas is a cure for my cancer' or '....for my daughter, who is disabled, to smile' or '...for my dying dad to enjoy his final Christmas with us'. It's Christmas - come on - spread the joy guys! Do you really want to tell the world of your family problems in order to win a pair of Christmas light up socks!?:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -

You, know, I woke up this morning feeling rather chipper (apart from the weather) and now I feel rather depressed, because I've been on FB and one of the advent prizes is an Xbox One, and the amount of sob stories that has been posted on there.......
You are right, Bluebella, in regards to telling the world family problems just to win something. Some of them today, while I feel sorry for things that have happened, seem far too distressing to use as a competition entry.
I really wish some of these companies would just have a simple form you can fill in, it seems fairer that way.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Yes, and I bet half of the sob stories are made up! The companies are merely asking 'what would you like for Christmas?' and probably don't have the time to read through all the sob stories at such a busy time of year!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
On the plus side, those people are so busy typing their sob stories that they might not get time to enter many others! (unless of course they have a pre-typed stock of sob stories - which I'm sure they do!)
I'm often tempted to write something sarcastic as well as the answer to the question asked, something like:
Rudolph(sorry I don't have cancer, my boyfriend hasn't left me, I don't have a sick child who would really love this present - do I still qualify?)Sealed pot challenge: number 0830 -
