Late Payment - Lloyds credit card

Hi i said to my partner that I would pay his credit card for him this month as he is away, last month the payment was due on 12th October so I thought it would be the same this month, turns out it was due on 5th October for some reason and I only realised today. So I've made the payment which has been applied to the account immediately but now am totally paranoid that he'll receive a letter about late payments. It's with Lloyds. Does anyone know how long they take before sending out reminder letters etc? Thanks in advance, from very paranoid girlfriend!!!

  • sorry another question - he has paperless billing so his statements etc. are all online and Lloyds send emails about things to my email address (as he doesnt have one). Just looked up their paperless terms and condition and it's states this -

    Credit Card Accounts
Your credit card statements will be available to view as PDF (Portable Document Format) files.

By agreeing to receive your statements online, you are also agreeing to receive other documents that we normally send as part of your paper statements such as certain Notices of Variation, Notices of Default Sums, Notices of Sums in Arrears and Annual Statements as part of your electronic statement.

Does that second paragraph mean that they would send a payment reminder or something like by email? I haven't received one so far even though the payment due date was a few days ago.

Really hope someone can help as very worried as don't want my boyfriend to find out I was late paying.

    Thanks

I don't believe they'd send reminders but would expect them to simply add a late payment charge onto the account and potentially notify the credit rating agencies. In some cases apologetic calls to the CC company may prevent them from carrying out these actions for a first 'offence' but if you're not the cardholder they won't speak to you, sorry....
  • Many companies have a small period before it would be reported to credit reference agencies, sometimes up to 14 days. Also dependant on previous payment history and circumstances, if it was to be reported you may be able to have it amended as discretionary based on new guidelines from the FOS. If it does happen to report and they won't remove it however, he may have to accept it as essentially the cars company have made no error and the payment was made late

It is not possible for there to have been such a large difference between the payment due date last month and this month (unless your partner has changed his statement date without telling you). I have a Lloyds credit card and yes there are small differences due to weekends etc of maybe up to 3 days but not 7 days. I think you are perhaps confusing the statement date with the payment due date?
Lloyds do not send me e-mail reminders of the payment due date but I don't know about what happens if the payment is late.

OP you need to get your boyfriend to organise himself and take some responsibility.

If he doesn't have an email address he shouldn't be signing up to paperless banking, particularly if he can't access the Internet as appears to be the case for this month at least.

If he had a direct debit set up for the minimum amount then that would relieve concern about late payment and credit file issues, though he still might incur interest.

Sounds like. A very odd way to run his finances, he should be managing things better, and if he can't then may be better off just using a debit card or cash.

They will normally send an email to tell him/you,
'Your new credit card statement is ready to view'
This should be his/your prompt to view the credit card statement and check the due date.

For any letters etc they would send him/you an email saying,
'You have a new message relating to your xx.
There's a new message in your Internet Banking secure inbox. Messages contain information about your account, so it's important to view them.'

When he logs into internet banking there will be an electronic letter in his inbox, which is towards the top right hand side above the account/s.

To prevent this happening in the future, can I suggest a DD be set up as previously mentioned, even if it's only for the minimum and not the full amount. This would prevent any worries about late payment charges and markers.

I agree that it is unlikely that the payment date will have changed so much from one month to the next.

Since the OP mentions 5 October and 12 October, it is likely that 5 October is the repayment date and 12 October is the next statement date. Unfortunately, this would still mean the payment was late and a late fee will probably be charged in next month's statement. Since the payment was made before the next statement, it is unlikely that the late payment will appear on the partner's credit file.
