Can a seller take the carpets & blinds AFTER completion?

  • That is a good point re the plants - as this lot have tried it on several times now and basically got away with it - they might well re-emerge "asking" for their former plants too. I wouldn't put it past them to just dig them up if OP is out.

Think OP is going to have to be very firm now in their attitude precisely in order to make it plain that if any of their plants mysteriously vanish the police will be sent round to get them back again.

There's give and take and then there's taking the proverbial.

I'd suggest your ex vendor has now passed into the latter!
  • Thanks everyone!

We have the fixtures and fittings form. We said that we didn't want any of it, but they pretty much left everything. Seller wanted £3000 for old blinds and worn out carpet! Not to our taste and very dated but since its there it will make do while we set up the new home. Removing it all now would be a huge hassle as we have furniture in and there would be holes in the walls where the brackets for the blinds are not to mention the time it would take.

We accommodated her request on one occasion (she came back for white goods, tables, odd stuff in the garage and an xmas tree. We also gave her stuff we had found in the attic), at no point then did she say she wanted the blinds and carpets.

I think seller is trying her luck at getting more money. She originally didn't agree to the purchase price, so I think her plan is that if we refuse to give the carpets and blinds then she wants to charge us. The whole process took 10 months, so she has had plenty of time to remove the agreed items BEFORE completion!

You guys are right....where would it end? She'll be wanting other items from the fixtures and fittings list next. I dont think I'd be surprised if I came home and some turf was missing! haha

I think I need to firmly say no once and for all! Needless to say the locks were changed on the first day!
  • £3k for worn out blinds and carpets!!! What is the house - mansion size and with "gold-plated" quality level of furnishings?

And 10 months to sell the house to you.!"!!!

This is no daffy Delilah. Those 2 comments of yours make it quite clear she's a right try-on merchant.

Its just an average family home! I honestly don't know what she would even do with such worn out items!

I had to laugh when I saw the prices quoted! Add to this another £1000 old lighting fixtures and lampshades...obviously we said no to that too!

The woman's clearly delusional. I wouldn't entertain her for a minute more.

She's had her chance and you've been more than reasonable. End of.

Tell her she can collect it from the local tip.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    Absolutely:T

It does look very like she's after some more money for the house and these visits "asking" for the house's possessions are just down to her making excuses to "get a bit more" in effect.

Do be very "firm" with her - as she's obviously got you marked up as a soft touch at the moment.

My dog got so stressed when we moved house she did little wees on all the carpets. Luckily we were planning on removing them anyway as they were rank ... but y'know. Would you like to borrow my dog? Of course, you'd have to be very sure she then picks up her - now stinking - carpets.

So, you stopped her short at the point where she wanted to pull the rugs from under you! That's what I'd have done. Crazy.

I agree she's delusional, but I don't think this is some master plan, as implied by Money. You say you think she wants to charge you for these items, but of course there's no way she could do that, is there?

She might be bitter, she might be unhappy, but in the final analysis her actions are just those of a daft old lady. Quite sad really.
