The cuts will put more pressure on other services , Social services who have now been told to improve by camerons speech or be taken over will be run off their feet with parents leaving children on their own to work, there will be more benefit fraud and more crime so HMRC and the police will be even more stretched.

Every last penny of my ctc is accounted for things for my kids,l budget to the hilt ( ive started this as soon as I heard about the cuts ) But im a skin flint anyway .

It Will effect single parents more. But what do they care... Scoffs half of the carrot cake and batters away her collegue. ps Im on my lunch I have 5 mins left.

One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:

    .

Bit of a leap there to be honest. Most people will cut back on non essentials or take on extra hours and get on with it.

Cuts have been made before, they didn't result in people turning to crime or leaving young children home alone. Scaremongering does not help your case.

If you work in the civil service there should be scope for promotion - if you're not ready for the next band yet work out a plan to get yourself there.

Already on it . I have already cut down. Unable to take on extra hours , no overtime and already work full time. I will just "get on with it " as you put it. I always have done and I know some families losing alot more than me who can not work any extra hours due to their circumstances. Several are very ill and along with this they will have to fight for their pip yearly.

  • I believe tax credits should be removed entirely. Most didn't mind when it was the unemployed being dragged through the mud, now it's their turn and they don't like it. Tough!

I don't agree with Frank's proposal but at least it (supposedly) saves the same amount of money.

The petition is a waste of time, the Tories won the election with a manifesto promise of a £12 billion cut in welfare. Anyone opposed to the cut needs to explain what alternative cuts in welfare should be made instead. At least Frank has done that.

There is still so much confusion in the press about what these cuts will mean and its the 'poor hardworking families' ie earning around 13K, who are seen as the victims. The ones that will lose £1300, they are the families that the press and the petition is seeking to protect. No one is highlighting, or care about, the plight of the 'rich hardworking families', even though these are the ones that will bare the brunt of the cuts and as you know Frank's proposals would punish this group even more severely. So anyone supporting that petition or looking to reverse the cuts, need to ensure that they are not just 'hardworking' but also 'poor' enough to be deserving!

I don't know enough about the workings of parliament to know whether adjustments could be made at this stage but presumably Frank thinks its possible, although yes it's more unlikely this week since Cameron said nothing would change but if I were a 'rich' single Mum, earning 30K+ with 10K of childcare, I would be very worried and certainly wouldn't sign that petition.

Yes any change would have to be cost neutral which suggests proposals like Franks would be the only possible alternative.
  • I am a single parent (through no fault of my own) with a child in high school. I have no family to provide childcare and work an hour from home so work 20 hours a week. I have tried to find more hours but have so far all jobs pay less than I earn now for more hours. I have worked for 24 years and never claimed any form of benefit even when we have been entitled to it. The tax credit cuts, for me, mean I can no longer afford to pay my mortgage and bills so I will now have no choice but to sell my home and rent. In my area, there are no houses who will rent to someone who has 2 dogs so I will need to rehome my dogs and pay more in travel costs and rent than I currently pay. I have worked hard all my life and for me, the tax credit cuts are hitting people who genuinely need help for a while. As soon as my daughter is old enough to be left on her own for a couple of hours, I will go back to work full time but for now, that is not possible. The cost of childcare in the area makes it unrealistic and I cannot afford it. This is not a self pity post but the reality of feeling like I have always worked and contributed and never asked for anything back but now, when I really need it, it is being taken away.

A large fraction of the highest earners (70-90% of the population) are significantly gaining due to these changes.
This is because they have a second earner in the house on minimum wage, and too high an income for tax credits.
The minimum wage increase is not undermined by reduction of benefit for these people.

I will not be signing this. The truth is the country cannot afford the current benefits bill and so cuts need to be made. Just because some people will have a drop in subsidy does not make the cuts wrong.

Personally, I would go a lot further and means test all benefits with a cut off of £15k.
