Make sure its a GT though (or a Nismo!!) the non GTs are rare but have a poor spec level and you dont get the gear "blipper"

Yeah I'll be going for a GT I think, unless I get very lucky I don't think a Nismo will be on the cards!

Why does it need 2 air filters? And why are they not covered?

Two lets more air get in to each of the two cylinders and they're not covered so that the water can get it in - water injection you see - its the next big thing

BMW are only catching up now with this technology.

Its one of the reasons why the interior trim quality is so low in BMWs, they've been "saving up" to invest in water injection systems.

Twice as much because there's two of everything on a V engine. They're already ahead of you with two oil filters. That's why BMW use a straight 6, to cut their costs and maximise German profits.

    Exactly

Although the big advantage of the V format is you effectively have two 3 cylinder engines that are just bolted together at the bottom, and theres a dash switch to "disable" one "engine" to save on fuel. Personally i dont bother though

Its a little known fact that BMW have a deal with Nissan to use these three cylinder engines in their 1 and 3 series cars now, hence why Nissan wont replace the 370Z - they're making enough money off splitting the engines and selling them to BMW.

The 3 cylinder engine used in the Mini is actually old Renault V6 engines split.

I have nothing against the 370z engine but compared to a 10 year younger S54 engine used in E46 M3 it still produces less power and that too the S54 is 3.2 litres whereas the 370z being 3.7 litres.

oh and the e46 m3 is also more fuel efficient

Because 323BHP driving the rear wheels isnt enough for you?

Gee, are you in for a shock when you get your Hyundai Coupe

Report him as yet another ID being used to disrupt threads by Dark Matter, whos a banned user.

    The mods will take notice.

You reckon? Last time I had to start a public thread pleading with them to ban him after already reporting and marking as spam a number of his posts.

Amazingly it was deleted and he was PPR'd within a couple of hours, despite the mods doing absolutely sweet b*gger-all about the repeated trolling, timewasting drivel I'd reported previously.

    Remember what he said.

    :rotfl:

It must be such a frustration for him to know so much about cars but to have to drive such mundane cars.

This is ridiculous. I'm giving advice to the OP. What is wrong with the e92 M3 OP? Does it not suit what you want? Are you put off by the rep mobile image?

Hes torn between a TTS and a 370z, wants to spend £20K tops, wants a 2 seater, is looking at bespoke coupes and wants a car no more than 5 years old. He would have a strong preference for a smaller turbo charged engine.

And as usual DarkMatter, your answer is "buy an 4.0 m3"

In recent years I've had a JDM 350z, hi-rev 350z, 370z and a Cayman. The Cayman 3.4 was probably the quickest, certainly the best looking and best handling but I always felt like I was driving around waiting for it to go wrong. Add in the fact a 2007 model was nearly the same price as my almost new 370z.

The 370z was really nice, not the greatest handling but better interior/performance than the 350z.

However, my favourite was probably my hi-rev 350z. Completely new engine/gearbox and better interior (than earlier 350z), better looks as car was a little wider and more squat - large bonnet bulges due to larger engine block. With twin induction kit it really roared. One of the few cars I truly regretted selling (part ex'd for the 370z).

For 20k I'd be very tempted to get a low mileage hi-rev, prob 12k, and supercharge it (prob 5k) - you'll lose money but you'll have a lot of fun ;)

Just to add, I've also looked at the Z4m coupe but was put off by skittish rear end (I'm a beemer fan, had loads of them) and the e92 M3 which is still a possibility. I've been driving a diesel volvo for the last 9 months and love it but I do have the new Mustang V8 on order...due in 2 months!

I know he's gone, but he's comparing a car twice the price. I'd expect a better engine!

350z/370z luggage - if I've anything big, it goes in the passenger seat or footwell. It might fit in the boot, but it's too much bother to get it in there. The 350Z was designed so that it MUST be able to take 2 sets of golf clubs in the boot. There's even a sticker in the lid showing how to load them!
370z looks a good bit more practical. Everything is relative.
    hi-rev 350z. Completely new engine/gearbox

I thought that it was just Nissan improving the internal Renault parts they were working with- same block.
The hi-rev does cost more bo buy, but the real stinger for me is the £500/yr tax. They're all in that bracket. There's one exception, the GT4 special edition, which kindof introduced the hi-rev engine, but can be had at £285 (or whatever) tax. Very rare and expensive and only available in black or yellow. Make sure you get the included PS2 and copy of GT4!
