Lotus Evora.
On a £4,000 budget?!I am not trying to "cheat economy out of an engine".
There's no doubt that the turbo adds performance at the same size of engine, but my point was just that you can't switch a turbo on and off with your right foot, in case you thought you could. It'll add efficiency at the cost of responsiveness and sound. The lag of a turbo used to be a feature, that for better AND worse, they've been able to gradually nearly get rid of.NA is dead and buried. I don't see the attraction of it, why would you stick with less efficient/less powerful engine when force induction and hybridisation offers more power AND more ecnomoy. If you drive any of the new turbo charged cars, your realise 'turbo lag' is all but a non-existent problem. Add in electric turbos or hybrid drivetrains and your get torque curves NA engine can never match.
This may be true for many drivers and applications, but turbos will always add cost and complexity, therefore cheaper engine = NA. You also completely miss the 'joy of driving'. Unless Jeremy Clarkson's roaming this forum, I don't think anyone here has driven a turbo car that has that responsive instantaneous response of a good NA engine (preferably at high revs!).
They've been co-existing for years, one doesn't have to replace the other!Ferrari 458 Italia, Lexus LFA
I wouldn't offend those cars with the label 'sports car', and they're hardly representative.Look at F1, the fastest ever cars were from the 2004-2005
Really bad example - check the top speeds (the engine's job). You're right that the fastest laptimes are from then, with 3.5 litre V10s, but they also had a tyre war and bigger areas to work with for aerodynamics. The little turbos they use today are actually very fast in a straight line! This is the toque curve from a Golf R
This car is the definition of efficiency over fun. Similar to Subarus being faster than Ferraris. I'll stick with the Ferrari, thanks.
Please remember, this thread was started by someone who wanted a sports car, and wanted SOME economy out of it. A diesel supermini or a Nissan Leaf does not fit that brief.
And just since no-one has mentioned it and we're talking about efficiency, how about that new Honda CRV. Not exactly fast but a lovely looking wee car. Probably still way over budget...0 -
Budget is as low as possible :rotfl:
But seriously, the top end will probably be around £20,000.
Although I did just find a lease deal for a BMW M235 for £360 p/m.0 -

Silversurferz wrote: »OP you say you want a turbo but isn't a 370z NA? Here are power/torque curves for the TTS and 370z. It may help you decide which car is right for you........
You could have saved yourself all that, by reading the first post.0 -
Good grief, the sooner DM is PPR again the better!0

Have you driven an M3 before to comment on it being a driver focused car?0 -

A car can still be amazing to drive even if it has poor reliability.
