    Hello!
I wish to buy it, being the only one to mention this to her

This does not suggest to me that the original wish/idea was Nan's, even if she's now going along with it.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Very succinctly put.

I honestly don't understand the OP's (perhaps faux) surprise at the responses to his postings.

No one likes those who steal from the public purse. RTB (without replacement) is a bad enough policy as it is. Using it to make a massive profit when you're not even the tenant is extracting the urine, big time.

On another point, Pixie, the gift would fall within the 7 year rule if the OP charged their dear old frail nan market rent during that period. Where she'd find the money to pay that is anyone's guess........

I've actually lived in this house for 2 years, allowing me the right to buy it anyway after reading the forms about family members which have lived there for over 12 months. And who said about me charging her rent money? and selling it? Think most people on here are the greedy ones to be thinking about all these schemes, and also, why am I only one to suggest it to my Nan? Maybe because I am the only person who can afford it.

Most people on here come across very communist indeed.

The OP doesn't currently, and appears to have no desire to, live with his grandmother - so would not be entitled to be a joint tenant with her.

There's no suggestion of her moving out - quite the opposite.

Yes, she does. But she can't afford to. So her grandson can fund it - but he wants the property to be in his name, not hers. RtB doesn't work like that.

Go back and look at page 1 of the thread. Posts 3, 4 and 5 say exactly that, factually and without being emotive. Then the OP comes back in post 6, and he clearly states that it's about keeping the house after his "very ill" grandmother passes away. By post 9 and 10, the OP is talking the area and property down - at which point it starts to become very clear that he is not interested in living there himself.

There really is just one question... would it actually be in HER interest to own the property...?

So basically you're now saying that there isn't an issue, you just the whole time wanted to be nasty because you clearly hate the RTB idea. How many more times have I got to say it, it IS in my Nan's own interest to own the property, but my financial support is needed, and thus can it be passed onto me!? It isn't nasty to ask or hard to understand.

Perhaps you should read what I've written a bit more carefully.

Great, but perhaps you could explain how?

She already has a fully protected tenancy, so there is no question of her being evicted. You've made no mention of funding extensive renovations of the property, always assuming she were willing to move out to accommodate them, so there's seemingly no question of poor maintenance. Given that she's been happy with the tenancy for 60 years, I'm uncertain how suddenly owning the property is such a benefit FOR HER.

Unless, of course, you're thinking of her peace of mind in terms of the future of the property after she's gone...?
and thus can it be passed onto me!?

Of course. In her will. Assuming the value of it hasn't been needed to pay for any residential care that she might have had funded for her, if not for your very kind gift of the value of a house.

Although, if it is to be YOU owning the place now, it is worth you remembering that any financial problems YOU may have may see the property sold, putting her accommodation at risk.

Communist? Most people on here believe in people paving their own ways and funding themselves through increased earning power and a subsequent ability to move house, rather than relying on the state or others to bail them out or give them a free helping hand. People on here don't have a problem with people owning their own home but rather, people who take the taxpayer for a ride.

So go ahead and do so pal.

But i'd suggest your claims have more holes than a sieve. And if you can purchase mortgage free why wouldn't you do so in an area with no scumbags.. both for your nan's and your sake..

you should not have a problem then
they will be able to see that you have been registered on the electoral role there and, if your nan has been receiving housing benefit, council tax benefits, she would have declare that there was a non-dependant living in the property for the last 2 years so should be pretty straightforward

It's not clear although the OP did say that the nan has a lot of ponces in her area so I'm guessing the OP currently lives in the house.
