MSE News: Sky to hike line rental and home phone prices, but you can beat them

How does the effect people who had the free BB & Phone for a year in June ?0

The new Sky Anytime package with mobile calls is £8pm, not £7pm. BT Anytime package is £7.95pm but with no mobile calls.
Personally I would have preferred a Sky Anytime package that stayed at £5pm or at the most £6pm which did not include mobile calls as I never make mobile calls from my landline.
I was told, last week, that if you have the Anytime £5 tariff without mobile, you can stay on it.
I don't know where I got the idea of £7 for Anytime Extra, but it's still cheaper than BT, to whom I hope never to return. ( I was just about considering Extra thinking it was £7 , but it's not worth £8 to us)0 -

In the past, I've found that services which were free, remained so even if the service had a price increase during the lifetime of the offer.
However, this may not be the same for everyone. For instance, the tv packages went up a short while ago, with just the Original pack staying the same price and the full price of mine (Variety) going up by £2. Therefore, I expected at least a £1 rise(ie half price on a 50% off offer) , but the price stayed the same.0 -
How will this affect the recent half price line rental +£100 credit offer?
I've just signed up to Sky, and get connected tomorrow (Thurs 8th Oct). Will my line rental increase by 50% of the increase?
Thanks0 -

Quite probably. People got to stay on the old Anytime package which included international calls but excluded 0870/0845.
From my point of view though the change is not good as I moved phone and BB from Sky last year but considering options again now.0 -
The 'free' service you may have are not billed as 'free', but simply as a credit, which reduces the price back to zero. So, if you have Anytime at £5 with a £5 discount, the base price may go up to £8 with the same £5 discount-so you would pay £3. If they try that, I'll be leaving.
I'm waiting for the email. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Sky customer price hikes, how do you think the sports tv contract deals are to be paid out and embracing all the hangers on involved0

Looking for opinions please on my cunning plan! I am looking at taking advantage of the Sky price increase to move to BT Infinity 2 because of a good cashback deal currently on offer with Quidco. The deal expires in 11 hours so I will need to move fast. Can I cancel my current contract with Sky if I have not received an email or letter from them advising of the price increase? If the answer is no, then could i sign up for the BT deal with installation planned for early November by which time I should have received notification from Sky of the price increase. Hope this makes sense. Thanks.0

Do you have to have been away from BT for a certain time before going back to them as a new customer. I've been with Sky for a few months now, but would drop them in a flash if I could sign up for BT again and get the quidco / signup bonuses.0

My Sky contract comes to an end this month where I was getting BB and line rental (free evening and weekend calls) for £16.40 a month.
Would I get the same deal again if I haggle or has anyone experienced failure ? Any better deals out there ?0
