As a point of order, the OP said in the OP:

I slowed down to 30 before I passed the sign.

But neither was the OP he only found this out AFTER going down to the office and was subsequently given it when it 2 hours later when it had been investigated.

Well, yes thank you for illustrating my point; AFTER going down to the office the goalposts moved. Geddit :o?

Yes damn Malcolm45's father for dying, so inconsiderate.

I beg your pardon? Johno100's comment (and mine) is perfectly valid and is in no way related or disrespectful of the sad news Malcolm has shared with us. You shame yourself for inferring otherwise. :(

The OP's clearly said that they were slowed to 30 by the start of the 30 zone, and that the camera was placed before the start of the 30.

Any evidence from the camera only shows that they were driving below the 40 limit to which the camera's line of sight applied.

We've subsequently found out that the offence wasn't the OP's at all, but in fact the car driving in the opposite direction, which (a) makes the debate about the camera's incorrect location and questions about extrapolating the car's slowing down moot, and (b) vindicates the advice to challenge the notice.

Of course, with the camera where it is, the car in the other direction might also have reason to challenge any notice they've received, as there is no evidence that they were speeding in the 30 zone.

This forum has a shocking record for not giving new posters the benefit of the doubt even though the newbie sticker asks for them to be given extra consideration. Too many posters on here fancy themselves as self-appointed moderators, and its a pity that the actual moderators do little to stop this.

For the benefit of others that visit here, the prosecution have no obligation to provide ANY evidence until the defendant has pleaded not guilty. The fixed penalty system is to shortcut it without going to court risking further costs. The fact that the costs have been massively increased this year massively increases the risks.
