They place speed cameras at the end of dual carriageway sections on the A1 in Northumberland just to catch people out as they are slowing down.
Also Newcastle City Council have just installed bus lane cameras. You can have a mile long bus lane but the camera is only at the end as you turn left - again just to catch people out. You could easily drive the first 3/4 mile in the bus lane without getting caught.0 -

I'd guess the ones at the end of the dual carriageway are to catch those trying to get past an extra vehicle or 2 before the road narrows and probably exceeding the speed limit by a wee bit.
Similarly, it's not the first 3/4 of a mile thats affecting the efficiency of the bus lane, it's the cars jumping in near the end to try and undertake a couple of vehicles on the roundabout.
Not saying it's right, but that'll be their thinking.0 -

The nearest I can think of is on the Berwick Bypass on the uphill section after the River Tweed going north (but that isn't dual carriageway) or at Felton where the speed camera is on the dual carriageway a couple of hundred metres before the end of the dual carriageway going south.0 -

There is one southbound past Alnwick as the road goes back into single carriageway.0 -
To all the, well I can't say what I REALLY want to say because it's against the TOS. The reason I haven't replied is because my father lost his battle with 'that' illness and I've spent the last week or so at his bedside, working or sorting out his affairs. So before waffling some rubbish out about a posting being fake and REALLY upsetting someone in the process, have a little think and realise logging onto a computer every day maybe isn't a first world problem for some people! To the ones that actually tried to help, thank you!
OK, so rant over. I got in touch with the constabulary that issued the NIP and explained the situation, at first he wouldn't listen over the telephone, so I went to the address on the letter and asked to speak to someone about it. I showed them the pictures, explained my side to it and then about 2 hours later they'd found out what had happened ... The NIP was sent to me in error as the camera was a front facing one taking a picture of a speeding vehicle coming towards me. The person who reviewed the evidence didn't think and because my car was in the photo at the same time he immediately calculated my speed and sent it to me instead! Rather worryingly, I found out that thousands of people have the same thing happen to them every year, makes you wonder how many people just pay up rather than challenge it!
As for the lines, they're from a camera that was removed years ago and since then the speed limit has changed due to a new road layout. They're still waiting for the council to remove them apparently.0 -

Sorry to hear your sad news. I apologies if you took offence to any of my posts. The number of people who come here and post a new thread to then never return is quite high, so I think most people assumed that was the case here.
Back to the topic in hand, with my skeptical head on I fear that they knew exactly what they were doing and sending two fines (one for each car) in each instance.
If that isn't the case, I hope they are going to review the fines and refund anyone who was wrongly adjudged to have been speeding.0 -
I'm sorry to read about your loss. I went through the same thing last year so know exactly how you are feeling.
Well done for not simply bending over and taking the fine and points as strongly suggested by one particular poster on here:Lord_Baltimore wrote: »I do wish you would all stop encouraging the OP to "fight this injustice". My dad got caught on the GNR between town and Gosforth in the bus lane. He thought it was a no car lane!0 -
How many other runners have the council charged for using the bus lane?0
