I think the OP needs to move on from this, he made a mistake which I'm sure he won't repeat in the future. I think his pride has been hurt because he didn't intend to shoplift, unlike some celebrities mentioned here:

I don't believe for a moment that Isobel Barnett intended to steal. I think for some, shoplifting is a symptom of mental illness. For others, it may be innocent absent mindedness. I was shocked and saddened by her arrest and tragic suicide, and remain so to this day.

Thinking about what you have wrote - I bet they expected me to come out of the toilet with the magazines hidden inside my jacket.........

The security guy did tell the Policeman I was "hanging around" outside the toilet for 10 minutes (I was on the telehone to my Manager - again quite clearly visible on cctv - and I even shown the call records to the Police Officer who shown them to the security guy)

Your manager? Thought you owned your own business?
  • Trying to type and control puppy at the same time! I meant to say some celebrities ie Anthony Worrall Thompson stole wine and cheese five times in two weeks!

I read that and assume he employs a manager.

Possibly, but I don't know any business owners who would refer to them as 'my manager'

My colleague or employee would be how they would refer to them, not as 'my manager'

I don't have any medical conditions, but I've done this before.

When my eldest was a baby, I got back to the car after paying for my shopping and realised that I had a packet of chilli mix which I hadn't paid for. It was under the blanket on the trolley part of the pushchair.

Another time, I paid for a bunch of magazines but forgot to pick them up. I only realised when I got home. I didn't get them back either despite calling the store. And you wouldn't believe the number of times I've left my credit card in the machine after paying.

We all make mistakes. As one of my work colleagues says, "show me someone who's never made a mistake and I'll show you a liar."

It's not the same though is it. You didn't pick up the chilli/magazines, put them in the pram hood, go to the cafe , pick them up and put them back into the hood again, then go to the loo and pick them up and put them back in the hood, then walk out without paying. You handled those things once.

Its not exactly the same, but there are similarities. They left the shop without paying for goods. They claim there was no intention to steal. It can possibly happen to anyone. (Perhaps not someone who is OCD). There but for the grace of god ...

    - they were wearing shirt, pullover and pants - but not smart suit pants so I would hazard a guess that there was not a manager there.
Sorry, but this make me giggle: a group of men standing round with their underwear on show... and not even their smart underwear.

    Funnily enough, I do!

In most cases "my manager" will refer to the person who manages you if you are an employee. But equally, it can refer to someone you employ to manage a business or part of a business.
