The sergeant bit sounds like new information. So the person who decided you didn't commit a crime never saw the CCTV footage?

You may have got very lucky and only got off as the items you were accused of stealing were low value so they couldn't be bothered pursuing!

    Strange comment.

Obviously he was guided by his colleague, why would he need to see the footage himself?

    Why would he need to.

The police are trained to gather and assess evidence and the PC who watched the CCTV would be perfectly qualified to inform the sergeant of the salient facts.

Or he may have just benefited from a professional police officer and his colleague using some common sense.

Something so many people on this thread seem incapable of doing.

The police officer on site was obviously unsure based on the evidence presented so phoned somebody off site to see what actions to take. That to me implies that it wasn't clear cut that the OP's actions did appear to be as innocent as implied.

If the item's stolen had been more expensive I would suspect (although could not say for certain) that the OP would have been arrested. It appears that only the low value of the goods has saved the OP

Why not just give it up as you will not convince neither the majority or myself that you have been treated wrong here, You attempted to steal items and there is no excuse at all so stop trying to make out that you were in someway miss-treated when you are the same as any other shoplifter who believes it is fine to take items without paying.

You are very much entitled to your opinion.....BUT.............

I did NOT attempt to steal anything.

1 Basic definition of theft.E+W. (1)A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; and “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly.

With regards to the comment about saing "I own a business" and waving wads of cash about.........that is simply not how it happened.

I only mentioned that I had to open the business with regards to time held there - and I never mentioned the fact that I had any money on myself at all - until asked by the Policeman. He must have thought this information important.

It was this fact - along with the fact that the security person "lied" about me trying to conceal the magazines and also about me "hanging around outside the toilets " that made the Policeman contact his Sergeant - and the advice from his senior officer was "no further action - it sounds like it could have been a genuine mistake" .

Forget the hate. Some will hate you under the belief that you ALMOST got something for free and need no other reason. You get some bitter individuals unhappy with their lives, whether that be their weight, their inability to please their spouse, or whatever the case may be, and will just hate to see others getting something for free, whether that be housing benefit, or a Nuts magazine. You could have donated £2000 to the homeless shelter the day before, the very fact you almost got away with a few magazines worth £5 is worse than the devil.

I find it rather amusing we have people in 2015 defending Tesco. After all their robbery and crookery over the years, it's just pathetic

This is all very well but delightfully crazy as it's got sweet fa to do with this thread.
Ps I'm happy because I've been called both left wing and right wing in this thread.
It's all very well for you to go all citizen smith but you still shop in supermarkets.. I understand..

I get my fruit and veg delivered. I get my meat locally, and there's a fish van that comes here every week. I don't do weekly shops in supermarkets but it is certainly relevant to the topic. Supermarkets have been allowed to tear apart towns and carve up the land, putting many out of 'professions'. Let's call it what it really is. People aren't just simply loosing jobs, they're loosing professions, some 'life-long'. They get extra privileges which gives them an unfair upper hand advantage over the likes of Bob, who wants to open up his own car tooling shop.

Just wait until we're at a point when the supermarket conglomerates come in and have market share on the food / clothing & entertainment supply. We'll all be wishing the old times back. They rob from the public, I have no issues with the public taking back what's rightfully theirs. The short sighted buffoons will most likely be confused by that

Well done, you can use Google. Now where is your actual proof that the OP intended this ?

Good, you seem to be actually learning something.

Make sure you pay particular attention to the part I highlighted for you.

Think about the limits of your knowledge on that matter.

OP, I think you'd better forget your experience in store and prepare yourself for the next surprise: just google "Tesco" and "RLP" together.
