    from http://ocean.si.edu/ocean-news/ocean-trash-plaguing-our-sea :

    This massive global problem is not hopeless. Some countries and states have banned plastic bags, a trend that will continue with public support. Participating in beach or park clean-ups is an easy way to reduce the amount of trash that reaches natural waters. You can avoid exfoliating soaps and toothpastes with tiny plastic microbeads, and complain to the companies that make them. And you can help every day by avoiding plastic packaging wherever possible, bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, and drinking from reuseable water bottles or coffee mugs.

    If you have a trolley full then you are using a car to transport it so it is even easier than lots of small trips.

    We got these at the Ideal Home Show http://www.notbox.co.uk/trolly-pack.html (and a larger insulated one) which is enough to take all our shopping from trolley to car to flat.

    I usually have a big trolley full and I have a bad back so I wouldn't try to lift such a heavy weight all in one go. Bags all the way for me, if I forget to bring them with me I'll just buy some more.

    I'm all for the charge.

    I've been taking reusable bags shopping for a couple of years now as I found myself drowning in plastic bags. Despite this. I still have lots at home.

    I won't need to change the following:
    I already take a tote bag to work for for my lunch, I take one clothes shopping and take reusable bags food shopping.

    Things I will need to change;
    Carrying an extra foldable bag in my handbag, remembering to carry enough reusable bags when good shopping - I end up getting more than planned and sometimes run out.

    The plastic bags I do get, I use for lining the small bins we have at home eg the bathroom bin. Once I've used stash of bags we have, I'll probably buy a roll of white binliners.

    Rarely have I been to the supermarket without my BFL, although on the occasions I have I punish myself by buying another BFL.

    The trouble I have is the cupboard is now full of BFL stuffed with even more BFL. ;)

    I was walking past a WH Smiths the other day and an old man came out of the shop clutching his newspaper. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his neatly folded carrier bag and proceeded to put his paper into it. How simple is that. He got it. Why all the moaning, just take your chuffin bags with you.

    I'm all lined up for supermarket bags and for shopping in town. No problem but it never crossed my mind about a bag charge at a large home wear store. I bought 8 cushions! Did I want a bag. Well yes I needed to get them to the car so it was 5p for a bin bag style bag. Not expensive or anything but it did catch me out.

    Why? :shocked::shocked:

    It's been well advertised any store chain with more than 250 persons working across the company in total must charge for the bag.

    I advise you to go to the Gov. website to learn all the details.

    Older people CAN add 2+2 = 4.

    Plus they were used to shopping on the High Street / Markets where you had to take your bags, before the megalith supermarkets arrived.

    I was fully aware of the 250 persons rule just didn't cross my mind when off to buy cushions. I suppose it was because 8 cushions or 1 for that matter do not fit into the bags I keep in handbag for town and boot of car for food shopping.
