New double glazing, road noise has increased

So, a manager came out to see the windows/fitting and to go through the list of things that aren't right.
One of the issues was that the sealant around the windows was messy and they had used a lot in order to stick the wallpaper down (this has been up a while and needs re-doing). So, they asked I take around an inch of paper away from around the whole window in preparation for them to do this again. I have done this and discovered there is gaps around the window sill and wall. Is this normal? There is cool air coming through these gaps. The fitters went on and on about filling any gaps with expanding foam but there doesn't seem to be any here. Although the air could be coming from the cavity in the wall, maybe? Thought this could be contributing the drop in temperature in the house and in the increase in road noise?
Also, I complained to the manager about the increase in road noise and said they will take of the strips around the windows and stuff the cavity with rock wool. Does that sound doable, or if it would actually do anything worthwhile?
Thanks.0 -

I would never put too much hope in having a visit from a manager of Anglian. We had a new front door fitted and they never adjusted the catches so that the door 'pulled in' when locked. What it meant was that the door bowed out from the frame by about 5 mm at the top and bottom, enough so that the gap wasn't sealed by the rubber seal. I actually got a visit from a regional manager who just happened to have a director of their door supplier with him.
Despite the fault being visible to the naked eye (the bottom and top of the door stood proud of the surrounding frame and you could see daylight) they offered up a long spirit level and proclaimed there was nothing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They admitted there was a simple adjustment to make but they hadn't got the right allen keys with them so couldn't resolve the issue!! They promised to send someone back but i ended up doing it myself.
I would not recommend anyone have Anglian do their doors and windows based on our experience0 -
Here you go...

hope that works. thanks.
Cant see too clearly from photos but where there are gaps there is a gaping hole behind them.0 -
Googling brought me here. I have the same problem. Replacement DG. The road noise, wind noise etc all seems to have a hollow echo effect. Mine were not done by Anglia but by a firm recomended to us. Can Argon gas alter the sound. We have lived in a lot of houses with DG & we have never had this problem before.Nice to save.0

Hi,
I was under the impression that Argon gas reduced external noise, could be wrong thought. It's an awful noise isn't it?! If you wouldnt mind could you post on here if you find any info. that might help when communicating with Anglian.
Thanks.0 -
Just thinking I'm not sure if the fitters installed the glass in each window in one go (i.e. a sealed unit of two panes) or each pane individually. There is no way they would be able to get Argon gas in once the glass is in the window, is there? Is there a way to tell which way they were fitted?0

did they replace the internal cills too ? they shouldn't be making that mess in the first place . if they've replaced the internal cill then they might but why not make it good . Has the manager seen this and thought it to be ok then. Do you have any of the old frames still in the house (even the garage one you might not have replaced) furt called it right . some old uPVC frames are and were better than the new ones . Anglian use a 20mm airspace in their units . sometimes the new nylon gaskets are not as good as a decent fitting rubber one . If you have it can still be compared for performance against the new ones . Your old units may have been thicker or laminated . without seeing more pics it does look like the finish not completed is allowing noise and cold into the rooms . keep us informed , Its not unusual for Anglian to pop up here . not the best product/fitters/managers & service . good luck:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
