Given that you say you had a good time - I'd ring up and at least offer to pay. However if you'd said it was not up to standard ... I'd be thinking twice ...

    This is redundant clearly:

If it was put through, it would've been on the system already.

So it sounds like its a pen and paper job. This means that the mistake isn't clear.

Is it the waiter or waitress who passed on the slip but didn't enter on to the system, or the barperson who didn't add it on after serving?

As I said, the practice of taking it out of wages is much less used nowadays. Most businesses accept that occasionally there are mistakes, and certainly not worth losing a member of staff over £12 when recruiting someone costs much, much more!
No it isn't! Drinks orders get sent through to the bar and then should be added to the total bill when the customer requests it. They keep food and drink orders seperate to avoid confusion. That is why when you send a check through to the kitchen, the check only has the food order and not the drinks order as well.

Then when you total the bill for the customer you will have everything logged in the till from when you sent the order but what has happened is the waiter forgot to add the drinks and gave the bill for the check that went to the kitchen :money:

That's a very dated system my friend.

Any respectable POS system will allow orders to be placed onto the table, with food orders sent through to the kitchen and drink orders to the bar.

The bill then printed from the table number on the system, which holds the whole thing.

Why don't you start a thread about your wife becoming a waitress?

Well I felt like I should offer, so I phoned up. They mustn't have realised as the lady who answered the phone wasn't sure what to do! She took the details of the order so she could make a note (though we hadn't had bottled drinks, just diluted juice, coffees and a pint), thanked me for the honesty and said not to worry about it :) So I feel better now.

That said, if the service hadn't been great, or we were unlikely to ever visit again, I might not have bothered.

You act like you know it all when you have probably never even worked in a restaurant. I can speak from experience that is why my posts are factual and your post has resorted to throwing a needless cheap shot like a child in a playground. If i was as childish as you i would react to it but you know what? I'll be the bigger man and walk away

Most places actually do it in a more modern way now Spinkz. There was no need for that.

    Hi Pal,

    Apologies for any offence caused.

As I previously mentioned, I worked for a major brewery, in a brewery owned hotel/restaurant/bar.

I'm fully familiar with the system, and the way I described it, is the way that it's done these days in all but the most out of date places.

I presumed that there was another thread coming up. I can only wish my life was as interesting as yours! Sorry for any offence caused, certainly not intended (rather a light hearted joke).

    Kind Regards G101

It was no joke, it was a cheap shot. I've had them that many times on here that its pretty easy to recognise the intention behind it. I've just looked at your threads and your life probably does suck at the moment but unlike you i have no need to take a cheap shot about your missus. If the shoe was on the other foot and i had a cheap shot about you starting another thread about your missus i'm sure you wouldn't be happy about it.

The knife cuts both ways but i'm too nice for my own good and i wont lower myself to that level :D

    Happened to me twice,

Once USD $200 of wine was left off what should have been a USD $600 total bill

Separately I've had a restaurant forget to put any food on the bill and present a £18 bill just for drinks on what should have been a £60 total bill

I corrected one of them and left a very generous tip for the other

Go with your conscience. If you feel guilty then call up and offer to pay. If not then don't.

Personally I would just leave it, but that's coz I'm more stingie than I am guilty.

I worked in a restaurant bar when I was a student and mistakes happened a lot, mainly due to the fact that the tables were long with bench seating so it was normal to get 3/4 parties at the same table. Although I got told off, it was never taken out of my wages and I wouldn't accept a job that did.
