I am human, have legs, not wings.
A fear of flying is natural, primal, anyone who says a fear of flying is irrational is talking as a android, or brainwashed (hypnotised) person.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Luckily not everyone seeks to limit themselves and their outlook in this way or we'd still be in the stone age.I am human, have legs, not wings.

We do any number of things that are not natural: it is irrational to fear things that are safer than the alternative. A good example is vaccination: every instinct tells us that if someone hurts us by sticking a needle into our bodies that is harmful, yet in reality having most vaccinations is far safer than not having them.0 -

Do you drive a car or go on a bus or cycle anywhere, Widelats? Neither of those forms of transport are "natural" as we don't have wheels. Trains aren't natural either - they're an invention, a genius invention, by clever engineers just like aeroplanes are.
Flying is safe. Otherwise millions wouldn't do it every year. I won't bore you with the statistics as you've convinced yourself that flying is not for you. Which is fine. Just do me a favour and encourage people who want to face up to their fear by being supportive. The OP clearly wants to do something about the fear and this should be applauded and encouraged.
Let's get the OP on an aircraft! It's a wonderful form of transport that can take you to magical places. Focus on what you're going to experience once you get to your destination. The thought of doing it is usually worse than actually going through with it.0 -
IME, a fear of flying has very little to do with safety statistics so there's no point in mentioning them.
I've had hypnotherapy several times but unfortunately it hasn't helped but certainly worth trying once because some people are do find it helpful.
I hope the OP can get over his/her fears but there's no harm in suggesting that, for most people, flying is by no means essential.0 -

I watched take off/landing clips (not the bad ones) a bit before I flew for the first time in March 2012 - I was nervous, but naturally since everyone had flown TONS of times seemingly on the plane to Jersey (quote, from the air stewardess, I know you have heard this loads of times, but please listen or something like that) I didn't show it, show myself up. No way.
I quite enjoyed my flight to Jersey, but than I flew to Edinburgh and felt ill *shrugs* but than I have mild travel sickness at times but anyway.
I don't mind flying, it's quick and gets you from a to b quickly. I don't fly often, as taking the ferry often works out better, but it's not something I mind. Don't give in to your phobia, I totally agree with desinstation that does work!! Totally works. It worked for me for something random and lot better reactions about it, but anyway, hope all goes well. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
