Mrs Toast - well done on the extra payment. If the weather where you are is anything like it was here this afternoon a walk by the river must have been very nice.

Thrifty - could you get UHT milk just to use for cooking and porridge if you eat it etc then just have the fresh stuff for when the taste really matters?

I have my Avon orders bagged up ready for delivery tonight, just £22 for us but that's £22 more than I had this morning. That money goes into my holiday pot. No biscuits eaten today which is just as well on day 1. Had a ton of work delivered this afternoon so tomorrow will be a busy day.

Hi everyone, glad to be home, feeling knackered! Well done everyone on giving up stuff and extra payments, i need to give up something, but won't commit just yet ;)

Well this month will be a toughie, so i'm being very careful! My shopping needs to be delivered tomorrow and i'm trying to adjust the figures while trying to also keep it from being uninviting :o I dropped by M&$ to get some black grapes, the sable ones are gorgeous and an expensive treat, but i'm fed up of buying them elsewhere and they taste awful! I picked up some yellow ticket coleslaw reduced to 15p and some cheesecakes reduced to 90p and they are lovely, so they will come off the overall shopping budget tonight.

Well, this weekend i'm planning on taking the little one bike riding, i'm guilty of just vegetating at the weekend and i will try to do more with him :)

Thrifty, i only drink soya milk, but my kids actually like the taste of longlife, so i don't have the expense of having to buy it regularly or find space for it. My mum on the other hand can't stand the stuff, lol. Well have a good evening everyone and take care :)

NSD 1 for me. I also used some freezer stuff for tea so starting well on the whole using everything up challenge. Let's see how tomorrow goes, I've got a leaving work lunch for a colleague to attend but I'm hoping lunch will be paid for and I can maybe get away with tap water while they're all drinking, we'll see ?!

    Hi Turtles

Today has been a good day for me. A mum came in to pay her party deposit (£100) & I had another lady spend £40 on takeaway at lunchtime, both on top of my regular days takings. Really grateful.

I haven't spent any of my own money today so NSD 1 in the bag.

Son is now well enough to go back to school, he stayed off a 2nd day today with OH to be on the safe side. I managed 20 mins football with him in the garden when I got home. Well I waddled around after him, but he was giggling away so that was nice.

We had a meat free evening meal which was really delicious. OH made it. Just pasta with basil, garlic, carrots, a bit of oregano and cayenne plus a simple tomato sauce.

I will be donating £5 to SUSTRANS again this month. They are a national cycling charity who do a lot of work in this country on making safe cycle routes and campaigning for cyclists rights.
One thing I am massively interested in is a cargo bike and I have been talking to other cargo bike users recently on twitter to get an idea of cost and where to find a good 2nd hand one. Brand new the gorgeous big box at the front Danish Christabel's go for around 2k. However you can find them at around £900.
Anyway its my latest obsession :)

Great to see everyone posting their first day news and motivations.

Well, failed on the chocolate front already , however doing well in writing every penny down so far.

We'll have meat free day today as I'll make a yummy fish pie. Found our fav recipe now that includes fennel, capers etc.

Lost my SFD today too :( as I ordered I present for my friend's 40th birthday on the weekend. Still cheaper than a mad dash to the shops tomorrow. But who'd have known that getting sth. delivered to the "Highlands" i.e. Inverness is just as expensive as the outer Hebrides?

    Anyway, have a lovely evening

    Question:

How do people with a high milk consumption preserve SFDs. Bought milk yesterday, but could get more tomorrow already. With all the other fresh stuff in the fridge there isn't enough space to more milk in one go. On the other hand I'm not keen on UHT milk and it's more expensive.

What do you count as high milk consumption? Surely just buy a bigger container when you do buy it? So you have more for longer and less NSDs lost? I normally pick up a 6 pint container per day for the shop but sometimes that lasts 2 days. And that does a lot of coffee!

NSD 1 in the bag, and 10k steps (aided by spending my lumch duty doing laps around the playground and grassy area with a colleague).

Budget done for the month and it is tight, with £32 'slack'. I hope to have overestimated some categories...

Am also on a use-up-food quest. Tonight was pork chop, and we have at least another 3 dinners in the fridge. I do almost all the food shopping, so should be able to control that...! (unlike in Sept) Tomorrow is my food shopping day so I'll be checking my list to ensure we have enough to get to the following Friday without dh feeling deprived...

I've paid off the 'standard' amount to the mortgage. Any othrr payments will be s t r e t c h ones, but am not expecting much, with half term this month and no obvious spare.

I shall not be doing the envelope system, as it really stresses me and causes a ridiculous rise in my anxiety levels (weird, I know!). But I shall work with cash instead, and keep careful records.

Bob - having said goodbye to a pregnant colleague yesterday, who has 3 weeks to go (ish), I thought of you - still cycling with ds, and you must be huge! Am I right in thinking that your due date is THIS COMING MONDAY???!

Hi all, well today I have done this week's shopping and spent £34.05 so £5.95 left for food. I haven't put any fuel in my car yet but that comes out of a separate budget and I should be ok until after the weekend.

I had leftovers from yesterday for my lunch and tea, so that was a good start, we are going out for the day on Saturday, so we are taking some food but fish and chips and ice creams will be bought but hopefully I won't be buying!!

Apple - put it this way, if I was in a your momma joke it would be 'your momma so big when she was at school she sat next to eveeybody' :) I don't think I can stretch much more. To me I feel like a hippo. However I have had several kind people claim I am neat and that I don't look term. So there you go. I can't wait to be able to lie properly at night again as it's in that painful heavy lump stage. But cycling is fine. I feel more comfortable on the bike than off it. Thanks for thinking of me :)
