Five OS Pleasures in your day today

1. Eating homemade soup and homemade roll for lunch knowing that
the soup was made largely from what many (not OS) people would
throw away.
2. Getting 18 free range eggs for the price of 12.
3. Finding that my local Morrison's are now selling pork hocks. Now I know
that we are in a recession as I asked a few months ago and they didn't
do them.
4. Making chicken in lemon and cocounut sauce for dinner tonight with
bits and pieces lurking in the freezer.
5. Sitting wrapped in a fleecy throw with a jumper, a knitted cardi and
a scarf and I'm warm. Thermometer reads 18degrees and still no
heating on.:j

Hi all
Today I am grateful for;
1. Its a holiday weekend, so I get to spend an extra day with OH.
2. Lovely neighbour sent round a 20kg bag of grapefruit, so it will probably be a marmalade and cordial making day.
3. Foraging in the local forest for more pinecones.
4. Started new lap blanket for winter, this one is in wave stitch, not something I've done before.
5. Will gather some pipis at low tide, if successful, then pipi soup for tea!
Have a great day everyone.0 -
1. Racking two gallons of wine off the pulp from home grown grapes and putting it into demi johns.
2. A lovely walk in our nearby woods admiring the autumn colours.
3. Picking free veggie from the garden for dinner.
3. Turning down the thermostat, putting on a thick fleece and realising that I didn't feel cold at all.
4. And tonight I'm going to bed extra early and am going to get a double-whammy benefit of extra sleep because the clocks are going back an hour.0 -
1 Playing snow leaves with DS1 and DS2
2 Playing hide and seek with DS1 and DS2
3 Spinning DS2 round until I feel dizzy
4 Reading 'Stick Man' to DS1 and DS2 and all of us agreeing it's the best book we've ever read, ever
5 Coming in from a long long walk, knowing that the dinner is ready (braised beef in slow cooker) and that we've all got enough homemade bread to dip up the gravy ...
And knowing that we're all getting an extra hours sleep!!!!That's Numberwang!0 -
Hi all
Here's my list for today:
1 - Having an enormous bowl of porridge for breakfast (DH made it and used up THE WHOLE PACKET!!!! Men....)
2 - Envisaging the lovely veg and oatmeal soup I shall make for lunch with the half gallon leftover porridge from this morning LOL
3 - The never-ending cups of tea that DH is bringing me while I am at the computer to make himself forgiven for the porridge incident hehehe
4 - My friend is coming over to bring some wood from his MiL garden for our woodstove
5 - When my friend comes with the wood she will also bring her spinning so we shall sit and craft and chat (she spins, I knit) in harmony.
Have a lovely Sunday everybody!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
... 5. Will gather some pipis at low tide, if successful, then pipi soup for tea! ....

my five OS pleasures for this weekend :j- a quiet weekend all to myself, Saturday and Sunday and nowhere to go!!
- having the windows open, lots of fresh air through the house
- making leek and potato soup for lunch, and maybe bread too
- the autumn colours of the woods I see from my window
- planning my meals for next month, and realising that I have almost all I need in the cupboards
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hmmmm, not feeling great today so reading your posts is cheering me up.
It is still freezing here- gales were coming in yesterday but calmer today with rain.
DH off to Church but me home with DS trying to be cheerful and get on with some stuff (knitting calling).
So my pleasures recently:-
1. knitting DS top with nice soft wool.
2. chatting with mum on phone (missing her these days).
3. roof over my head, food in my belly, and cupboards are fairly well stocked (is this os or not- not sure- cupboards full of raw materials not ready make stuff so it is kind of OS lol).
4. broth stock taken from freezer to make into soup later.
5. about to heat upmy oat bag and put a blanky on instead of heater!
I too would like to know what pipi's are ?
Keep all the lovely posts coming, take care everyone.

1. Enjoyed a a cheapo Delia pork belly, apple & cider recipe for lunch.
2. A cupboard full of CD's to listen to while it's raining outside (AND WE'RE
STILL COMFORTABLY WARM WITHOUT THE CENTRAL HEATING !!)
3. Finding a nice sum of money a box in a cupboard this morning
(proceeds of a car boot sale) which we had completely forgotten to bank!0 -
Hi all
rosieben; pipis are small shellfish, about the size of a cockle, but with an oval flat shell. Found at low tide in the sands. They are delicious, but underated here. We live near 20 kilometers of uninhabited beaches, so there are always plenty to gather.
My 5 for today are:
1. Watching the high tide sweep into the esturary - we have high winds today, so the secenery is quite dramatic.
2. Watching a couple of shags spread their wings to dry in the winds.
3. Chatting to some intrepid fishermen who are whitebaiting at the rivermouth.
4. Clearing the hydroponics ready for Spring planting.
5. Planning bridal jewellery that I will be making for a friends wedding.
Have a great day .0 -
1) being given 2 plaques for the garden a sun & a moon, hubby found them in a garden he was clearing & was told he could keep them
2) spending the weekend with DGD & DGS
3) reading an Alfie book to DGS
4) taking DGD & DGS for a 2 hour walk in the rain
5) watching hubby playing with my grandkids even though he's knackered & they aren't his grandkids
