Don't think I'd be taking my car back VW for this recall (if I had a VW).
I bet it would come back to me with either lower MPG and/or less BHP/Torque
  • Well said TB .... it's fraud, but the only problem is if we got our money back ..... is finding someone "honest" to go and buy another vehicle off ! Ha Ha Ha !

We are just back from the US and already they were showing free phone numbers of lawyers on the TV to call for compo claims.

Really feel let down by VW. We have already had a DPF changed under warranty. What about all these folks who have had to pay for EGR valves as well ?

  • I think all the recall will do is change the software and register the car registration to a higher tax. I suspect that they will not bother to improve the software.

Anyway it all starts in Jan 2016.

The government has already said the tax banding of existing vehicles will not be altered by the emissions scandal.

The government have already said they won't up the tax on these vehicles (which usually means we won't up the tax on these vehicles till at least the next budget)
I don't expect non VW owners to be very happy either, whose car emissions may be equal to these VW but are paying more in road tax

I can't see how the software is going to help, or they wouldn't have needed to create the cheat in the first place.

I'm not too happy as I spent months researching what to buy, trying to get fuel costs down, getting into a lower tax bracket, and taking into account the depreciation. I do feel ripped off. And just to rub the salt into the wounds, my car was in for a near £800 service the day they announced my Audi was one of the 395,000

That is precisely why, in my opinion, this is criminal deception, and should not be passed off as some sort of civil dispute, as though you'd bought a faulty washing machine.

The emissions that VED is based on (ONLY CO2, which is just another name for fuel consumption) is nothing to do with the emissions that they were cheating in these tests.

That's the problem when politicians, the green brigade and the meeja bang on about "emissions emissions emissions" - it just ends up confusing unrelated factors as far as the public is concerned.

    It's quite simple:

They were cheating the figures for nasty pollutants (mainly oxides of nitrogen). The levels of these have no effect at all on the VED band.

VED is based on average fuel consumption expressed in different units - nothing more, nothing less.

Only, if they made that clear then it'd be immediately obvious to everyone that how your drive is as, if not more, important than what you drive and the large hikes in duty on the back of "emissions" would have been a lot harder to implement.

An £800 service? I can see why you need a low VED. My Jag , in the nearly 14 years that I've had it, has never cost more than around £500 or more usually £350 at The main agent.

    VAG sheep... Follow the crowd...

By all accounts Müller wants VW to grow even bigger... Facilitated by the VAG sheep who will continue to buy into the brand...

A bit disparaging Sid. After all, VAG saw fit to mug its own 'sheep', many of whom are members here.
