A question about dishwashers.

I don't know why people would get wound up by a stranger on the internet pointing out that a dishwasher is unnecessary! Or that the lazy-bones who use one are also disinclined to do other tasks, like emptying the damn thing.

Managed without one for thiety years. Now have a slimline one in our smallish kitchen and would miss it if I no longer had it. As you get older lofe becomes too short to waste time and energy doing things by hand when they can be done mechanically. But when we go-self catering on holiday and have to manage without one, the roof doesn't fall in but I'd still have one by choice. Hate unloading the darned thing though!
So do loads of people. Everyone in my family who has a dishwasher hates unloading it.
I'm apparently not allowed to point that out on here though :cool:The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
Unloading it doesn't bother me - I prefer it to putting away the washing up off the draining board, which effectively amounts to the same thing.
Our old dishwasher used to leave residue on things which made them taste funny, particularly glasses, but our new one doesn't do it.0 -
If I was completely remodelling a kitchen, I would design it so that the dishwasher is near the cupboards which hold the plates etc. As someone else has said, that makes 'emptying the dishwasher' extremely straightforward.
I must be lucky with the layout of my kitchenThe cupboard immediately above the dishwasher holds the plates and bowls, the cupboard on the left of the dishwasher stores the pots and pans, the drawer on the right of the dishwasher is the cutlery drawer, and the drawer on the left hand side of the dishwasher holds chopping boards.
The only thing that actually requires moving away from the dishwasher is the cupboard with mugs and glasses and it's only a couple of feet away.
So, I don't hate unloading the dishwasher because it's literally no hassle at all0 -

Another reason might be someone who's got limited mobility/use of their hands.
Anyone else should wash up their dirty dishes!! A dishwasher uses a lot of water, the tablets make the crockery and cutlery taste weird, and people who are too lazy to wash up are invariably too lazy to empty the dishwasher anyway.
Another very good reason to avoid dishwashers is their contribution to the rise in childhood allergies.
Judgemental much! And also very wrong.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Your original post seemed to say that people who use dishwashers never, ever empty dishwashers and argue among themselves about it, which is a bit different from people who do dislike unloading the dishwasher but still do it without fuss every day0 -

That's an interesting interpretation of what I actually said! The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -

OP was seeking opinions on dishwashers..
Just because you don't like what someone says it doesn't mean it's wrongThe report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
summerspring: dishwasher owners are not all lazy, fast-food munching chubbies ....some people do cook from scratch, use dishwashers to ensure that the dishes are clean and hygenic - washing up in a greasy plastic bowl using warm water that doesn't kill the germs, using the same sponge/cloth all day - and then wiping up with a damp teatowel that has lurked around the kitchen all day ......yeugh!
Just because you don't like dishwashers does not make them a Bad Idea ...any more than my description above of hand-dishwashing is indicative of all non-dishwasher users!0 -

Where did I say that they are?
I said dishwashers are a luxury, which they are. I don't mind or even care who has one.
The link I posted addressed the issue of 'getting rid of the germs', namely it's causing a rise in allergies among people who seem to want to blitz every single germ so that their home is sterile..
And by the way if your teatowels are that dirty you need to wash them more often. The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0
