thank you for your reply uncreative.. why carry 4 credit cards though? if i was focused on the Cashback i'd probably just carry the BCard pair..and obviously use the Amex one where possible.

i just carry what i need, leaving others at home safely, in case i need them.

Simple - Because I have 5 slots in my wallet and if i dont fill them all they get loose and fall out more easily.....!

The Barclaycard "game" of AMEX vs VISA is interesting as YNAB doesnt let me report on it (but thats not big deal) and its only when we look at the statement online that we can sort the purchases and see which ones were made with the VISA and therefore lost out on half the cashback..... We are pretty much experts on the local "who doesnt take AMEX" front.

  • Whenever I am in a fancy restaurant I make sure I say very loudly to the waiter at the end "Can we have the bill please, and bring the card machine with you, i will be paying with my PRIVATE BANKING BLACK CREDIT CARD" I make sure and say those last 5 words extra loud so that the surrounding diners cant help but overhear my payment method. In that way they will see how successful I am in life and probably talk about me for their own journey home.

They don't give those cards to just anyone you know. (Trading places).

  • LOL!

I've used to have both the American Express Platinum Card (£450 fee) and also the 3% Aqua Reward Card, and 4% Luma Card. Not ashamed to use any of them. Plus, I used the Aqua all around the world with it's free international transactions.

Only time that Amex is very useful is the offers - such as when we where at Universal Studio's - 10% discount on all purchases, is not bad.
Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!

You can keep your Amexes and your flashy black cards, they don't mean a thing to me..

However ..... I would LOVE one of those silly Hello Kitty designed debit cards that all those spoilt teens have in the States.

I have no shame in sharing this.
