Do people really still fuss about the "status" of credit cards - I thought that went out withthe 1980s?

I don't think I've ever had a conversation with anyone about credit card 'status'. I'd run a mile from anyone who tried!

I didn't know they had status until I started reading MSE forums!

I've had an HSBC CC since the early 70s. It's taken a few forms - originally Midland and gone through Access/Mastercard/Visa but I don't ever remember discussing it with anyone in those 40 years.

And I don't remember noticing any of my friends' cards when they've used them.

It's in my purse now and I've no idea what colour it is.

I have been in groups which discuss their card, it happens a lot in London, its full of those sorts.

Its worth having a card just to see the look on their face when you use it, that is what I save it for, for when I am judged by the arrogant and stuck up.

Not that I care what people think, but I like to play.:money:

I've noticed a few friends talking about the deals/rewards they get on their cards but not status, I think more people want their cards to work for them but I can't think of anyone seeing them as a status item, they're just so commonplace.

Thirty years ago they were very much sold on status, yes - and the acceptance criteria was pretty high, esp for a Gold, silver or other such "special" card.
