  • Our paperwork says that as soon as we claim compensation our cover is cancelled. Is it possible to re-subscribe, or would you recommend another scheme?
  • I had this product that I cancelled last year. I seem to remember I was charged around £75 per year. I had passports home/car keys etc under my cover. Is it just credit/debit cards covered for the compensation TIA
  • I received the form last year filled both the 5000/10000 boxes in & today I received a cheque for £81....

More of an update than a reply

Following my post a couple of weeks ago re cheque from Barclays, yesterday received a cheque from AI for £292.88p making a total of £565.21p in compensation, Moral? Keep going peeps, don't think you wont get anything (we did!) and BIG THANKS to MSE:money:
  • I have been repaid for the period 2005 to 2015. Now I would like to reclaim for the earlier years. I have no paper work only a membership card so I rang the Sentinel helpline number and they were most helpful. I learnt from them that I took out the policy on 14/8/1987 and they were able to tell me that I paid for it every 3 years with a Debenham's Charge card. Sentinel was able to give me the last 4 digits of the card, but from 2009 it was paid from a bank account (which I no longer have). I telephoned Debenhams, but they had no records going back that far. Do you think there is any way I can follow this up and get 18 years of unnecessary payments returned to me? I would appreciate any advice that you can give.
  • I received a cheque regarding this scheme and banked it 4 days later they cancelled the cheque and are now making it awkward to get a replacement don't know what to do now
  • Hi,
I'm in Taiwan now, but paid for Sentinel since leaving UK in 2000. I'm in the process of making the postal claim for post-2005, but thought I would find out what to do about pre-2005. I had no records here to refer to, other than my account reference. I phoned Sentinel Customer Services (and asked for Customer Relations) on 0800 0234318 (but using SayNoTo0870 I actually phoned 02392 652222 from outside UK). Spoke to Julie, who treated me very nicely. After the usual security questions, she was able to tell me exactly when I started the insurance in 2000, then calculated that I was due a refund of GBP80 and promised to send a cheque within 7 days, which arrived as promised. I couldn't believe it was so simple, no forms to fill in even. Not bad for one Skype phone call! Well worth a try.
    All the best,
    Dawei in Taiwan
  • We received a letter in january addressed to my father (who passed away in october last year) informing us of a claim form that he had sent in august. I followed the advice found here and contacted them informing them of my fathers death.
It seems now, if we wish to continue the claim that we have to provide a letter of probate. I have looked into this letter and it looks as if it will cost a couple of hundred pounds to go through the process of aquiring one.
Does anyone know if this letter is necessary or if the executor being named in the will suffice. Any advice would be helpful.
(p.s. I live in Scotland, don't if this makes any difference from a legal view.)

Further to my posts above I wrote to Credit Card Sentinel about my pre-2005 claim. (On the phone the scheme said they could not help me with pre-2005 info).
At first they said I was not eligible under the scheme so I rewrote and said I was claiming for time before this. (I had no details except my knowledge that I had bought cover pre-2005 and knew I was not eligible under the scheme)
They now say I paid for 2 years (I thought it was about 5) and have sent me a cheque for the 2 years (without interest) = £89 as a GOODWILL gesture.

The value per year is higher than expected even though the number of years is less so my inclination is to accept.
Should I? Or should I try to claim the interest at 8% a year? They say I am not offered the interest as it is a goodwill gesture only

    Thank you,
    Pete
  • I tried phoning them but the person at the other end of the line simply didn't know and told me to write in. I did this and today received a letter to say I should return my cheque since I was disputing the amount . I am not. I am asking them to explain how they reached the amount of interest that they paid. How can I be disputing the amount if I don't know how the final amount was calculated? All they need to do is give me a breakdown and then I can decide if I'm in dispute or not! Suppose it's the ombudsman next. It's not the money. It's the principle.
