If you have not been paid minimum wage for the hours you have done then you can always report them...

I did once! I left university and worked in the lab of a ceramics factory. The boss was a bully, the work was tedious and not at all challenging and I hated it. I worked every day over 2 weeks while the plant was shut down (someone had to go in). After this 2 weeks, the car park got very full (more than it was before)... I went in, and was a few minutes late. No thanks from the boss for doing the extra time, just an ear full for being a little late. I walked out later that afternoon. Just thought I dont need this and off I went. No regrets.0

Am really hating my job and environment and just want to quit , it's making me really miserable , just curious to know if anyone here has done that and how quickly did you find work again, manage financially etc.
I'm so disappointed in myself as I've never been a quitter and have stayed in my previous jobs 15 and 8 yrs. I am also aware my age means my options are limited tbh.
once back in 2010 time. It was a very hard decision to make but ultimately it was the right decision at the time, and i was fortunate in finding another job only a week later.:)
Its the only time i have ever walked out from a job especially when i had no back up plan to tide me over (apart from a meagre amount of savings).
My reasons for walking out - the boss was a truly nasty man - he was a bully through and through. He made me feel extremely uncomfortable. When i left i was the 6th receptionist to have walked out within 4 months..I dont regret my decision - it was right at the time. I hope i am never in a position where i feel i have to walk out from a job again - and if the situation did crop up i would think hard and long before walking out.
If you are truly miserable then leave - no job is worth that amount of unhappiness. Luckily for me i had some savings plus i knew i could rely on my parents to help me out for a while - i realise not everyone has this advantage.

Not always true. I explained to the person interviewing me exactly why I had left the previous job and they were most sympathetic and I got the job.
same for me as well. Some employers/interviewers can see the bigger picture, accept that some employers are utter bum holes and give you a chance.

I was told that I would only be getting paid for the hours I was contracted for despite working double that. I realised there was a total lack of respect for me and more and more responsibility was being put on me without any proper induction/training. I'm worried what their response will be as they are a huge organisation and I'm only one me. There is no Union that represents the job I was hired to do.
well done for being brave MI. I have everything crossed for you. No job is worth making you ill. EVER.

I've:
1) Quit a job without another to go to, but worked notice.
2) Literally just stopped turning up to one job. I actually had a second job at the time however and formally quit a few weeks later, but never worked notice.
3) Walked out of a job after 2 days because it was awful.
4) Been sacked. My fault but I was planning on quitting anyway as I'd lost all respect for the company and was the main reason I lost the job anyway.
None have done me any harm and actually getting sacked from that job was the best thing that's ever happened to me career wise. Gained another job a week later paying 50% more with 12 hours less work a week. Still there now.
Admittedly these were all back when it was easier to get a job and I was younger with less commitments and a bit more reckless. I'm not sure I'd do it now.0 -
I wouldn't now as jobs aren't so easy to find. I did in my youth as I was sexually assaulted by my boss, I just walked out and never went back. In those days it didn't occur to me I could do anything about it - I was 17.
I've always told my kids not to leave one job without another. Employers don't like it and it's a dog eat dog world out there.0
