This.
As miserable as you may be in your job you'll be a lot more miserable when you can't pay bills.0 -
Am really hating my job and environment and just want to quit , it's making me really miserable , just curious to know if anyone here has done that and how quickly did you find work again, manage financially etc.
I'm so disappointed in myself as I've never been a quitter and have stayed in my previous jobs 15 and 8 yrs. I am also aware my age means my options are limited tbh.
Does your current employer provide references, or just confirm dates of employment?
It might be worth staying if they will give you a reference, but if not.. leave. You only get one shot at life, why stay somewhere that is making you miserable and are not even going to give you a decent reference.
I left my job many years ago, and haven't looked back :T
I was frightened to quit, thinking what if.. what if.. but in the event quitting gave me a chance to completely change direction and turn my life around. The only jobs I would have got at the time would have been the same kind of job that I was doing, and I didn't want that. The report button is for abusive posts, not because you don't like someone, or their opinions0 -
I did, almost two years ago. I worked in a call centre for an energy company. It started off really good, but after 11 months I was getting sick of management leering over you when you had been on a call for so many minutes - they were more interested in number of calls, as opposed to actually helping customers. I had one manager disconnect my call when I had been 3 minutes over the allotted time - the customer was crying on the phone to me as she had missed a payment and the manager simply cut it off.
This made me a click, but there were a few other incidents (I caught two managers going at it in a room once and they were threatening to get me sacked if I said anything!) but I collected my stuff and walked out.
Awful company.:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
I have left two jobs on principle but I didn't just walk out - I found another job first and then quit.0

All good advice thankyou.
It has to be said in the cold light of day that I don't want to be without an income so I may be dying here and as miserable as I've ever been I will look for something else first .
When I started here in a team of 12 I am only one of 2 left in 15 mths so I know it's not just 'my' problem .it seems like most people leave sooner or later. As I'm typing this one guy walked on mon another is working his notice and so the cycle goes on.0 -
I just started at my new job in late August and it is awful. Hands down the worst job I have ever had. I am being completely taken advantage of, have worked 80 hours this week despite being contracted part time and I am being used to cover shifts and classes that other people are getting paid to do and then being paid a fraction of their rate...or possibly not being paid at all. I am also being used for duties other than the job I was hired for. The wage is RIDICULOUSLY low. So much so that I need a second job to survive but I have no time for another job!
I'm at the point now where it is making me really ill. I can't sleep at times because my heart is pounding thinking about all the things I've got to get through in a day or the fact that I've just finished work and have to do a 14 hour shift in 7 hours. I've started having chest pain and panic attacks.
My previous employers asked to have lunch with me and wanted to see how I was getting on in my new job. They were visibly really shocked when the saw the physical change in me and were concerned for me. They advised I leave as soon as I get my paycheque this month, detailing the ways in which I have been taken advantage of and lied to. Some of how I've been treated is actually illegal. My previous employers have also offered me a part-time job back with a possibility of it going full time in a few months at much more money than my current employer. My parents want me to move back until I get a full time wage and get back on my feet.
I've always been a really good employee - totally dedicated and have done whatever has been expected of me. I am now at breaking point. I felt like I was going mad yesterday at work with how much was expected of me and I nearly walked out there and then but I am worried they won't pay me. Its got the point that I'm only getting home to sleep and I'm only getting 10 or 15mins at lunch. And constant phonecalls and emails when I am off.
I physically feel awful right now. I genuinely don't know how I'm going to be able to keep going until tomorrow evening. Its been two weeks since I had a day off.
Some jobs really aren't worth it at all. If you can afford to walk out without another job and risk being unemployed for several months do it. If not, I honestly do not know how people cope.0 -

tbh as others have said its better to get another job first. the only exception to this is if the job is driving you to commit suicide, in which case nothing is worth that so just walk.
I would only walk if I had another job to go to or i had won the lottery.
On the latter many people say they would quit and tell the boss where to go, I wouldn't, I would just keep quiet and speak my mind to everyone i came into contact with for a week, be as obnoxious as possible on conf calls and when they eventually threaten to fire me I would drop the bombshell that I will soon be lying on a beach, earning 20%...0 -
I walked out of a job about 40 years ago when one of the bosses started swearing at me about something that wasn't even my fault. I literally picked up my handbag and coat and walked out with her screaming after me "where are you going, get back now". I got another job the next day.
It was easy in those days to find another job and I told the new job the truth (the guy interviewing me said he didn't blame me for walking out). Today, though jobs are much more difficult to find plus if they want references.
My last job I felt like walking out off when the boss was giving me a lecture about being off sick with a migraine when apparently "other people come to work with a migraine". I didn't but I did write out my resignation letter in my break which didn't go down well. I decided then not to work any more so didn't have to worry about finding another jobThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I felt like walking out today. Spending most of the day sat in silence because I work with the unfriendliest bunch of people I've ever met, being expected as usual to work through my lunch break, being made to feel stupid, and finally being blamed yet again for mistakes my colleague has made is just too much.
I have a stomach ache a lot of the time from the stress, I know I can't quit but it's very hard not to sometimes.
Not all jobs are like this are they? I'm kind of scared to look for something new in case it's just as bad.0 -

unfortunately the 'better the devil you know' theory keeps many people from leaving rubbish jobs. I think you'll find when you make the leap you'll kick yourself for not doing it sooner.
It sounds like your current job will knock your confidence more and more, I would put every effort into finding something else..0
