I would probably offer just a sandwich, but then that is me, I like to feed people!

Bearing in mind you're probably paying the workmen a fair amount of money I don't think you should provide lunch for them as well. Sure, a cup of tea/coffee and some biscuits is nice but that's as far as it goes.

I've just had workmen in. Copious supplies of tea, coffee and biscuits were supplied but no lunches. And it may be a cliche about builders, but I could not believe how much sugar they got through. You might need an extra packet ...
  • If you want the job done as quick as possible I would feed feed feed..that way they aren't spending ages down the caff. Worked for me!

Thanks for the replies. I can relax then! The only reason I've asked is because my mum always makes a proper cooked lunch for them, something like lasagne and chips and then also supplies various biscuits/cakes/scones throughout the day with tea and coffee. I was unsure if this was the norm.
I would never have thought about doing this - and I wouldn't do it.

None of the gangs of workmen I've had in - windows, garden, soffits/fascias, carpet fitters etc - have ever gone off to the caff.
They've always bought their own lunches.
    I've supplied tea/coffee & biscuits.

I agree with bouicca1 - they all seem to take at least 2 sugars.
As does my windowcleaner who also always get a cuppa.
  • I have builders in as we speak. They took their lunch break yesterday at around 2pm. Late by some standards, but I guess whatever fitted their schedule. They had packed lunches, and ate in their truck. I've also offered them a cuppa, but they've brought flasks! I would never normally offer workmen lunch, unless I lived in the sticks and popping to a shop wasn't really an option. I've also offered them the use of the loo, but so far they haven't used it. I wonder where they're going?

It depends. The lads from the rugby club usually get a bacon buttie made by OH.

Workmen that we don't know apart from the job we assume they have their own lunch.

Agree with others. Drinks and biscuits but not lunch.

I find they like homemade biscuits so I tend to make batches of biscuit dough beforehand which I freeze so that it's quick to make up a fresh batch if they are going to be there more than one day.

A happy workman find does a better job.

We've had a LOT of tradesmen over the last 18 months. None of them expected lunch- they set up a microwave and toaster in the garage, mostly made their own tea etc. I did make cold drinks for the gardeners as it was roasting and always offer drinks

Yet another reply to say that all tradesmen bring their own lunch. We've had various in and several of my friends and relatives are tradesmen themselves. They all take packed lunches.

I always offer tea/coffee and if they want it, give them a few biscuits with it. That's usually appreciated. :)
